Any reason not to use Silestone Leather series in bathroom?

I went to Home Depot today and picked out my cabinetry, countertops, flooring and sinks. I knew I wanted to use Silestone Tigris Sand in Leather before I went in but was unsure of the drawbacks. The designer at HD said there is no reason not to use the Leather finish in a bathroom.

Does anyone out there have an opinion on this? I absolutely love the honed finish of the leather. It looks very much like Travertine which will be my flooring.

Better check to see if the fabricator still offers it. Most do not anymore. Even when they did, mine required a signed waiver that the customer understood that it was more maintainence and would show fingerprints and other oily stains more readily and they would be more difficult to remove. Get a sample and be sure you can live with it---even "just" in the bathroom. Makeup and hair products can be tough foes to keeping a countertop pristine. While you are testing the countertop, do the same with the travertine flooring. It's a beautiful look, but it is much higher maintainence than a porcelain look alike will be. Be sure you're OK with that additional work before committing permanantly to it.

I have something similar in my kitchen. It is a honed color of Caesarstone, another quartz countertop. I really like the look, and I would choose it again. My color has since been discontinued, but it was a golden tan that was supposed to mimic limestone. Pretty similar to the Tigris Sand, actually. The issue with the oil is real. You do need to work harder to get oil/grease off. It would be the most noticeable if your countertop gets direct sunlight. Mine doesn't, and I only really notice it if the light is just right. Doesn't bother me, but I'm not the most meticulous housekeeper. Still, I dislike the cold, shiny look of granite, and I would not have chosen it had I not been able to get it honed. It looks much warmer and softer to me that way. I agree with live wire oak: get a sample and see.

Kevin, when we built our house (going on 13 years), we used corian in the bathroom and I love the integrated sink of corian. So easy to clean that sink. But now we're thinking of a minor re-model with new mirrors, granite countertops, fixtures and of course the sinks will have to be replaced. Still trying to decide about replacing the flooring as we already have warm tiles and I like the flooring ok. The Archer sink is one I've looked at. We have Kohler faucets now and they are still perfect but I will replace just because it's wise to do so with something used as much as our MB fixtures. I'm still leary of ceramic sinks as I remember the days of old chipped ceramic. The thoughts make me shudder sometimes. I think that's one reason I keep putting off this project. I'll be back on here one day advice-seeking for real!

Thanks to you both. A minor update: I peered closely at the vanity and noticed that the baseboards were cut out to accommodate it, so it does make sense to leave the vanity in place rather than gettng into the hassle of matching and patching the missing trim. And I took my Silestone sample over so I could look at it with vanity, tub, and tlles and I really like the look. I see, however, that I could get an American Standard fireclay top for only about $170, which would look nice and clean and might be the most practical option. Hmm... I took a couple more pics of the vanity, which I'll post a little later.

Thanks for the suggestions, oceanna. I'll have to try and find the gallery. As far as the green goes, we removed wallpaper in the green family and I was happy with that for years! I have to stay in that family because this powder room connects to a larger part of a walk through bathroom (which is actually where I put on my make-up and hubby shaves). This part of the bathroom is strictly for the toilet and handwashing. Today I am returning the etched oval mirror and getting a plain oval mirror. The vessel sink I ordered arrived and it is impacting my choice for the vanity top. I will be looking at faucets today, I have to make that choice before I can order the solid surface vanity top because of hole size and placement. I plan on sinking the vessel slightly into the vanity counter. Decisions, decisions! Anyone have a link to the bathroom gallery? Where do you find these things? It was the same in the kitchen forum, I could never find them (my gallery only showed the same old 8 pictures every day) but had people sending me links with tons of stuff! You guys are great!

enduring - I love working with soapstone! I still have about 20 sq ft of it left over and I keep thinking what to do? what to do?! This project wasn't quite done yet and was contemplating the master bedroom. I have a few things to do there and then I will be planning another bathroom redo. It never ends but honestly I love it! I had the sink made. It was just one less thing for me to do and though it cost a bit more than what I would have paid to construct it myself; it still wasn't that bad of a price overall. It's made from a single stone that was hollowed out and is quite heavy! And yes I do love the wall faucet. When I redo the other bathroom I think I will go with a wall mount too. I like having it high and not collecting gunk. My kids do not have good aim with tooth paste. ;) mrspete - Not sure if it has a name. I Just went to a wood shop and purchased the boards, cut and sanded and put a clear coat on them and put them up. I had a little cubby that I really could do nothing else with because there is a chimney located behind it, so it is perfect for storage. It has a false wall in behind the shelves where I can take it out and access the plumbing for the handheld shower head should I ever need to. I have that on the outside of the wall that the rainshower is on too. Designed everything so I have easy access and shut off valves for all of the faucets/shower heads. This bathroom is a dream come true after living with the other one for the past 10 years.

I also absolutely love the honed finish of the leather Silestone. I was considering "Amazon Gray". But based on what I've read on GW I'm afraid to use it. If you hear any positive reviews, let us know.

I have a light colored leathered Silestone in my kitchen. I haven't had any oil issues with it. It's been in for a couple of months now and I really like it in the kitchen. I don't see any problem with using it in the bathroom.
