$1377 to install tiles in a 10 x 11 laundry room????
Comments (16)buddysmom- Make sure to research who Lowes is going to send to install your tile. The previous owner of this house hired Lowes to install the kitchen tile and it is the absolute worst tile job ever. My 11 yr old could do better with no instruction or supervision. Tiles are not level to one another. Some are off by almost 1/2 an inch. They left baseboards in place and tiled them in. I had to use a crow bar, sawzall to remove a wall of baseboards. They didn't pull the dishwasher out so after closing, we went to pull the DW out to replace it and it would not come out. We had to loosen the counter. The grout was not mixed correctly and it is rough, too low in some areas, too high in others, it is spaced at a good 1/2"-1" apart. No, nothing is lined up perfectly. It is a really bad job. The neighbor went with her to Lowes to complain and Lowes said, too bad, that she knew it was independent contractors, Lowes would not work to fix any of the issues. She went through Lowes for some other work and it was done really well so I am not saying all the contractors do subpar work but I would want to speak with the company or person actually doing the work and to make sure they do quality work before the work started....See Morelayout of 8' x 5' laundry room
Comments (5)Hi, I have similar dimensions for my laundry 7' x 5'. I have my FL stacked all the way to the left of the 7' wall then 5' of counter for folding, no sink :(. Kind of a pain to not have the units facing you since there is not a whole lot of space to work with directly in front of units. I have tossed around the idea of switching to the short 5' wall to make moving laundry from wash to dryer easier but like you I would have that gap in the corner as well as the dryer vent and water hoses to deal with. If you could make it work it would be nice to build some shelves on rollers to put your detergent in that empty space. IF you leave the w/d on the 7' wall as you planned I would recommend either a counter (maybe that will hinge up) with sorting bins underneath. Good luck!...See More24'x24 floor tiles in a 5.5'x7.5' galley kitchen????
Comments (5)Thank you all for your feedbacK! (particularly since it was positive :)) I very much like the idea of using the paper cut-outs to get the feel and also to play with patterns, the running pattern would be a second choice. I hadn't quite been thinking in terms of anomalies, but that pretty much sums up my instinct. Because everything else contemplated is pretty minimalist, I was thinking anything less than 16"sq feet would be too busy, not to mention the grout factor - ugh! The last thing I want is the eye drawn to the floor! Thanks again!...See MoreIs a 9.5' x 30' pool too small?
Comments (7)I say go with whatever fits your space, use and budget. Brentr, apparently the party monster :>), is proof that any pool adapts to your lifestyle! Child of the 70's here, one of the first to have an above ground pool. Tacky now I know, but it was the neighborhood hot spot (too my mother's chagrin)and we loved it no matter how many kids were in there. Fast forward to now on the opposite coast we have an inground pool not too far off your dimensions. A modified rectangle (trapezoid?)about 40' long and it's about 10' wide on one end and wider on the other to incoporate the built in spa and stairs inside it on the end which makes the pool wider in the middle, maybe 15-18', not sure. So instead of a bump out we bumped in, by widened the one end to keep a clean line on the perimeter. Kind of hard to explain and I don't have a picture now, but by keeping it parallel with the back fence it looks retangular except bird's eye view from above. It's "play pool" depth: 3 1/2' on the spa end sloping to 5' in the middle and 4' on the other end. We have a small yard and our goal was to make it as long as possible and as close to the back fence as possible so we could perserve our green space and have a good size patio. Never wanted anything wider, but initially wanted to go 5-6' longer for laps, but our designer suggested scaling back so there could also be a small patio on the non spa end and we never regretted the decision. Husband knows how many "laps" it takes for a mile and he swims that often. Because it's linear it looks really long from the ends. Funny thing is every kid that comes here loves to hang out in the narrow side next to the spa, sit on the 3-4' stairs (my sun shelf) next to the spa, or go in the spa even if the bubbles aren't on. They like the little places. Like all those kids that hog the hotel spa thinking it's their own private pool. IMO your design is enough room for your kids to play and learn to swim and when they get bigger they'll probably want to go to the public pool with the diving boards and the billion kids anyway. Many people do not want pools so for resale and upkeep bigger is not always better. BTW I don't know how they price pools there or now, but back when we put ours in, linear foot was a big part of the $. Which is partially why designers loved kidneys and irregular shapes more than lap and rectangles. We didn't realize it at the time, but our bumping out for stairs and spa would have been more expensive than our widened the end to bump in. Good luck!...See MoreILoveRed
