Granite Seam help and opinion

Here is my granite seam. It reflects light and is very noticeable to me. Is this normal? It seems they matched the sides well, and in certain spots, it is barely visible (this won't let me post more than one photo) but from the kitchen side, it just glares at me. What do you guys think?

kimg8, you can post a second photo in another post in this thread. [Okay: looks like you did so while I was writing this.]

You can even make 2 consecutive posts in the same thread, but as GW's software is a bit paranoid about spam, you may need to change what's in the Subject of Posting box before you can send the post.

If your photos are stored somewhere on the web (for example, a photo-hosting site like Photobucket or flickr), it is possible to put multiple photos in the same post.

Yup. It's obvious! Perhaps the granite experts like Kevin will chime in, but in my humble opinion the glue that was used to laminate the edge is too dark for the color of the stone. I bet Kevin can tell you whether it can be fixed.

"So as a fabricator you don't see whether cabinets are level when you see the old counters?" You may, you may not. The old tops may be plastic laminate with a lip-over edge hiding shims. As a professional, it is my job to balance satisfying customers and making money. The end of another guy's job (cabinet installation) and the beginning of mine (top installation) can get tricky. If the cabinets are found to be out of level at template, I can tell the homeowner or GC to have them fixed by the time I install or there will be a trip charge and payment in full due immediately. I have enough problems of my own. The homeowner's/GC's/cabinet installer's inability to do his job properly is not one of them. You don't get countertops and a free lawn mowing, you don't get countertops and a free cabinet fix. You get free shims.

Oh my gosh! I thought the two people above me were nuts at first (sorry to you two!) since I clearly saw a horizontal seam and thought the real problem was that the 2 pieces of granite were a horrible match for color. Then I stared at it some more... and realized the seam was VERTICAL and not horizontal. That is a very good seam. I couldn't even see it at first! As far as feeling it, we could feel ours at first, too, and I had them come back out and polish it again. Now it's as smooth as the rest of the counter.

HELP! Need third party opinion on measuring for granite install

Well, all I can say is that in those 2 pictures, the two measuring tapes aren't making a right angle. I can't tell if you mean that's what they are measuring or what you are measuring. I'd wonder if perhaps they aren't doing this in "most efficient" mode because you've got a pretty darned visible seam there, and they're trying to get it at least in the same area of granite from 2 slabs--that L of granite you show sure seems to have a lot of different colors, seems like being even remotely matching would be difficult on the seam.

This is on kitchen side, but looking more down at it, rather than from a distance. The only time it really bothers me is when I am on the kitchen side, and a few feet away (first picture). It GLARES at me then. Please give me your opinion.

Will you have window treatments on the windows after you move in? I suspect it literally glares at you as the light is reflected off that seam differently than the granite itself. But, if you will have window treatments and/or furnishings, it may be mitigated.

The seam itself doesn't look bad.

The seam looks good. Some people just notice the small things. Did you know there would be a seam right there? I bet window treatments will help with the glare.
