How to Move Itunes to Another Computer?

There must be an easy way to do this, but from everything I have looked into, I can't find it! People purchase new computers every day, right? What is the most efficient way for moving your itunes account/songs to another computer? Ours is currently on our oldest computer and it is not worth keeping, but we can't figure out a way to do it without moving them one by one . . . . . .

I just did it using the itunes built in back up feature and burned the entire Itunes lib. to disk.

That is definitely a dirty dirty trick, and I would be feeling exactly the same way. We are supposed to get hit with it too, but it won't do us any real harm, since our gardens are still under snow. We will still complain about it though. Sorry, Annie. TM

Well, if you open up the Picture It program, you should be able to find out the name of one of the picture files. Then go into Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and search on the name for your whole C: drive. That will allow you to identify the folder where the pictures are located. Then copy and paste them all to the flash drive. Don't cut and paste them as you want to leave the originals on the old computer in case something gets messed up doing the transfer. One other thing important thing. I'm not very familiar with the Picture It program, but believe it saves copies of photos with a ".mix" extension. You may not be able to open these files on the new computer without the help of a program that can convert these files to another format. It might be best to install such a program on the old computer, and convert all the files to a more common format like".jpg" before you move them. Loralee, that has happened to me several times, I am blaming a herky jerky finger sometimes, and sometimes when I play cards, the task bar has a mind of it's own, so when these things happen, that don't happen often, and I am staring and wondering What happened? I write the solution down in a little book I have, so if it happens again, at least I don't have to come into the forum to find the answer. I know most of the time it is my own fault, and I feel somewhat bereft about that, I am a senior, and should know better by this time. regardless, I always appreciate the help provided by the great gang here, and know it will always be available. I've linked to a pretty good article right here on how to transfer iTunes. You basically have to export your music library to an XML file, change the paths on it to be appropriate for your new computer, then re-import the library with your new edited XML file. They also link to a software program that can help you with it.

Can't you just save the music folders to an external HD and transfer those to the new PC. Seems like that is how I did it last time.

If you've purchased any music or movies that are protected, make sure you deauthorize your computer (under Store in the menu). I think Itunes now sells music unprotected (not sure about movies). In the past, the files were protected and you could copy them to a certain number of ipods and a certain number of computers. If you change computers too many times without deauthorizing, you won't be able to play them on the new computer.
