Navigating To Control Panel With Frozen cursor

You can try pressing the Windows button between the CTRL and Alt button on the left side of the keyboard. This brings up the menu so use the arrow buttons to navigate up to Control Panel and hit the Enter key. In the new window use the arrow keys again to drop to where ever you wish to go.

You cannot go from Printers to the hardware then mouse. so you would need to make three separate go at achieving whatever it is you wish to try.

I assume you've rebooted and that hasn't fixed the problem...?

What's the camera flash sound I'm hearing?

OMG!!! I had the same thing happen to me! I would hear the sound of a digital camera flash/capture (slow click sound) about every 5 - 10 minutes, or so!! Very scary!! 1 have 4 different computers in my home: I have 1 (IBM Thinkpad) laptop, which was the ONLY computer I used to go on line. The other 3 PCs (HP, Mac, Dell) have NEVER been connected to the internet - but do have a wireless that I disabled after I noticed the problem with the camera flash sound. ALL of my comptuers now make this sound!!! Just started happening in December 2008 and I've been looking for some information, or mention of someone with the same problem SINCE then. This is the first time anyone else has reported the same issue. >> When I checked the Device Manager and revealed all hidden devices, I noticed that there was a "Video Capture" controller, and some other wierd things that have never been there before: a bunch of controllers, terminal services keyboard, terminal services mouse, terminal services redirector, more video controllers, video capture devices, channels, pipes, some kind of message que process... ALL of which I never installed on my computer and I can't figure out when they became installed. After trying to disable the Video Capture controller, I noticed the camera sound went away, and NOW my CD drive makes a noise at the same approximate 5 - 10 minutes interval. SOMETHING is happening. I thought that I was really proficient with my computer, but I missed something and now I've been breached. I believe that my computer activities are being "captured," or photographed (maybe even video recorded) and are transmitted somewhere through one of the "secure" pipes that I discovered on my computer. I NEED HELP! I have a bunch of other related issues, but this was the start of everything. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. (No my camera isn't attached, no I didn't change the audio drivers yet, because I never changed them in the first place, and they've been working well until now.) I want to know WHY it has happened before I start to change what this "thing" has done. I need to understand it so that I can combat it. CAN ANYONE HELP?

I cleaned my mouse while I was online & now my cursor is frozen..

Thanks to each of you for responding! I had a computer tech come to my house & he said that the new mouse I bought did need some software installation (altho the box said it did not). He did that for me & I was right back in business. He also went through my installations & deleted some old & unnecessary ones & my computer is faster now. $37.50 & worth every penny to me! Thnx again...

A follow up to share what I learned. The Smart HDTV is now working and delivering streaming movies to our bedroom via the WiFi. The only wires to the HDTV (Vizio) is the house A/C electricity. 1) Don't change the WiFi password in a router using the WiFi interface, use a Ethernet interface. This is based on experience with 5 year old Netgear (low end) Router still 54 mb capable 802.11n? I tried and the Router ended up locked up. The password change may gone astray in any case the Router could not access the internet for connection to either the Ethernet or the WiFi. Lights on the Router showed both the Internet and WiFi okay. I replaced with a newer Netgear which supports 150 mb and has more Internet based features. 2) My Smart HDTV (all?) does provide for inputting all keyboard characters via an on-screen keyboard(s). I got in trouble because the number only input on the hand controller made me decide to change my Router password to all numbers, which I did on the new Router. Still better, much faster putting in numbers from the channel keypad than to use the "Hunt and Peck" on screen keyboard. The (my) HDTV does not have a touch screen so one has to click the pointer around the keyboard to pick out inputs. This into my view only after I entered the all numeric password and hit the "OK" - the next screen was the subject keyboard - which I no longer needed, but did need later when logging onto Netflix. The operation involves being in a data field, input any leading numbers (best) from the hand held keys then hit the "OK". An on screen keyboard then appears. If nothing more is needed, i.e., all numbers, click down to the "Enter". Side benefit: then new Router specifies Windows 8 compatibility - the old one was XP, maybe Vista qualified and some older Routers have problems with newer OS. The HDTV showing a Netflix movie had no detectible breaks (buffering?). I thought maybe that is because of the new Router, as my W8 computer had (and still has) some breaks in Netflix streaming, not sure about other services. The W8 laptop still exhibits this problem. One last start up issue on the HDTV. After logging on to my WiFi I pushed the Netflix button on my controller and Netflix started to load but failed. I started over again, it failed again. I then tried the Amazon application and it too failed. I then when into "chat" with Netflix technical support (they came on quickly) after the exchange of information on the situation on my end the support person typed, try youtube, so I did, and it come up/worked. I typed back the smart HDTV must be learning or youtube is more fault tolerant, No response, but I then tried Netflix and it worked and continues to work.

To add to owbist's advice, the Tab key moves the cursor in the control panel window.

did she try the suggestions I linked to for this problem you mentioned in your other thread?

unplug everything, including mouse, turn off the laptop let it set for a while go back and try it again.

if the mouse is battery operated try changing the batteries also.

what you are looking for are keyboard shortcuts here are some links to some, these allow you to move about the pc with out a mouse.
Keyboard shortcuts for Windows
Windows Key Shortcuts
100 Keyboard shortcuts (Windows)

always nice to know some of these they come in very handy.

Thanks for the help everyone. We've just about tried everything except the keystroke shortcuts, which I will try later today and the external mouse. Don't have a mouse compatible with a laptop. If nothing else works, that will be the only thing left. It might not be a bad idea even if we get the cursor moving, since it is a recurring problem.

Many years ago here on this forum I read about setting your computer up just incase the mouse failed for any reason. In the Contol Panel there is a section titled "Accessibility". (Can't miss it, it has the universal handicap symbol.) There you can set you arrow keys in the number pad to control the pointer.

Every computer I have had since I read that many years ago has been set to control the pointer with those arrows if need be and I have had to use them a time or two ;o)
