electric vs lp water heaters

We are at a point where we need to replace our 15 year old LP water heater. It is a 75 gallon tank and provides not only hot water for the usual, but also tot he hot water coils that are the heat source for our heat in winter. It is beginning to show signs of leakage and most certainly has sediment build up that is causing it to be VERY cost ineffective- this we know. Our problem is how to decide whetehr to switch over to an electric version, having never had an electric wather heater in almost 40 years of marriage. From a reasonable amount of research of both versions, it seems obvious that given the price we have to pay for propane where we live, that electricity will most certainly be cheaper. The question will be how much, a large amount or an obscenely large amount. Of course the electric company and the gas supplier both claim that they will be cheaper. Conventional wisdom says that gas is ususally cheaper, but NOT HERE!

Can anyone shed any light on this matter? From either personal experience or reasearch? Will we be as happy with the amount and speed of the hot water from electricity? It is just the two of us, but with the heating factored in.

We may be being anal and have the correct evidence in front of us, but I don't want to have to buy another for a long time! Many thanks ahead of time!
