Yeah, 'I' wann em! I'd like to see diagonal, kinda large squares with cut off corners here and there with something interesting in that spot. (I hope you know what I'm talking about...) Like, Mollie, I'm selecting a floor for an 1820s farm house.

Marble: isnt' is slippery?
I stayed in a hotel in New England last year and they had a heated, marble floor. It felt soooo nice. I would think that in a cold climate, I would want heat on any ceramic, stone or marble floor I would have put in.

As for your questions about the marble, I've heard the same thing from several sources, including people in here. In addition to installing the floors above, in my last house in Connecticut, I also had marble floors. Pink argenta marble, specifically, and I never had a problem with slipping on that floor.

Lindy I love your current bathroom - the floor and particularly the way the shower and bath are- I have a similar layout and envisioned what you did but had not quite seen it.
Lindy- how do you like living with the floor you have now? It is really attractive.I am going to see if I can find it or something like it.

Here's our master bath (don't have a photo handy that does a close-up of the floor, but hopefully you get the idea). They're 16x16 tiles, and every 4 has a 4" decorative tile in the center. That seemed to be the best, not-too-busy frequency of placement for our bath.

I really like the look of a bricked pattern for older homes like yours..I think they look great! :) I have a picture of a bricked pattern..I'll try and post tomorrow..

We added a second bath in our 1950s cottage. This was taken pre-baseboard and fixture install. The floor is covered again with cardboard while we have the lousy paint job redone.

This next one was for a good friend of mine. His wife and daughter had gone beachcombing for sea glass the weekend before, and found a glass hosres head (or as his 4 year old daughter called it, SEAhorses head), so we put dead center in the design in the floor:
