Vessel sink, Wall mounted bridge faucet, How to install

I am DIYing a 1/2 bath in my farmhouse style home. I plan to make the vanity out of 3x6 rough sawn lumber in a post and beam style. I have an old butcher block style counter I intend to use for the countertop. I want to place a copper vessel sink on it.

Question: How high should I make the vanity? I know that counter heights are around 28" for bathroom and 36" for Kitchen. I like kitchen height, so should I measure 36" inches from the rim of the vessel and make the vanity accordingly?

I also intend to use a wall mounted bridge faucet. I have read that the faucet should be about 6" above the vessel rim, so I am ok there.

But what kind of framing do I need in the wall to support this plumbing?

If the plumbing is in the wall, what do I need for valves under the sink, or do I not need them? Are shutoff valves required by code?

This bathroom has no windows, am I required to have a fan in the room?

To finish, we also intend to put up a copper ceiling. Should look intersting when done!

No. A vessel sink has to sit on something. There are many small sinks meant to be wall mounted. You can find several tiny glass vanities with integrated sinks at places like overstock, and ikea makes a small ceramic sink, the lillangen, which is meant to be wall mounted via special brackets, that people here have chosen to use as a big vessel sink. Anything like should work for you.

I was told anywhere from 6-8 inches above the top of the sink for vessels so I would think the same number applies from the couner for a drop in. If you can, put your sink in place and 'see' where it feels most comfortable.

My water stream hits the center of the sink drain - just dumb luck I suppose when installing. Faucetdirect.com search allows you to pick spout length. Yes, the wall has to be opened up and the pipes moved up to the exact distance needed by the particular brand of faucet that you choose. Then you have to close up the walls, do drywall repair, and attach the finish trim pieces. If you ever have a leak or problem, the wall needs to be opened up to access things as well. Wall mount faucets are best located where an access panel from the other side of the wall can be concealed. The labor will be more than triple what installing a deck mount faucet would be, simply because of the work behind the walls being needed. A deck mount faucet is an easy DIY install, taking 30 minutes at most. You really don't need a plumber for that if your shut off valves are newish. Also, if you are utilizing an existing vanity, it may be too tall for a vessel sink. Vanities that will be short enough for a vessel sink would be in the 30"-32" height, not the 36" height that vanities have become over the last 20 years.
