I am in love with a tile saw blade...

please help (no, don't, actually :))...I'm thinking of projects I can do to keep using this gorgeous, wonderful, understanding, supportive *fabulous* tile blade I bought that has breathed new life into my Target Tilemaster...it's the Raimondi T3 Razor. Ahhhhh.....

I had posted a while back about being unable to cut a straight line while trying to finish a project w/24" long tiles, and wondering what the cause could be -- Bill and one other kind person suggested trading out the blade first (after trying to refresh it with concrete block) before getting the whole machine overhauled...well, that was *great* advice, you all. Thank you for the encouragement. I just wanted to write back to let you know I so much appreciate your replies to that post, as they helped me on the way to discovery of this FABULOUS new blade.

It's a whole different day when you can count on a straight line, clean edges, no chips...and less whine, too! It's quieter than the old blade, and delivers consistent, dependable results...like it's a partner or a friend rather than an enemy, iykwim. I feel competent again.

So hm, mosaic stair risers out of tile leftovers from the various projects? Hmmm...maybe when I've recovered from the rest of the house -- but it's possible to envision now, thanks to the Raimondi T3 razor!

Hmmm...I have a 25th wedding anniversary coming up, I wonder if my wife would like one of those as a gift.

Touching up a chain is a waist of time, especially when you have to do it every tank fill up of the chain saw. How do you get any wood cut in a day, if all you do is file the chain, that much? Sorry. I used to use a filing guide by Oregon, and file my cutters till a wired edge (just enough to catch on your thumb nail as you dragged it along the length of the cutter) started to form across the cutter. Then you cutters are good and sharp. I can pretty much cut fire wood all day before I have to replace it with a sharp one. Trick is to keep the nose out of the dirt. Now I use bench chain grinder, from Tecomec (same place that builds them for Oregon out of Italy, but a lot cheaper then Oregon). I can sharpen chains a lot more faster than I cam or could with a file, or filing guide. Every tooth is the same as the previous, Same length of cutter, and degree of the cutter. I bought it 7 years ago, and it paid for it self in less than 6 months. I cut an average of 20 and one half, full cords a year for myself, along with approx 30 to 40 full cords to sell per year. I also sharpen several chains for others, aswell. Worst thing that I found, is give the chain two or three stokes, here and there is harder on a chain, than giving it 6 or 7 strokes to get that wired edge to form, and you will be able to get a lot more cutting done, before the chain needs sharpening again. I have tried several things, with sharpening a chain, to see what works the best, and getting that wired edge, is the best way to get it done right. This is just my opinion though. Bruce.

Dustcollector and Loger Thanks for the help. I tried the links that you both provided and it looks like they have blades that would work. I made a return trip to Sears where a different saleman said that even though they did not have them, what I need is a "U" shank with a hole in it. In order to try to get something locally, I went to a nearby Harbor Freight store. They had a set of blades that work. It is a 30 piece set of various sizes and was only $11.99 including a nylon pouch to carry them. These blades fit perfectly and 30 of them should last quite a while. I have bought a lot of tools at Harbor Freight (no power tools though) and have never had a problem with any of them. Some are an even better buy than those I find at other local stores. Thanks for taking the time to respond. If you hadn't, I would have probably thrown away these tools and replaced them. Now, with two of them and all of these blades, I should be set for many more years of use. Sorry it took so long to reply but I wanted to resolve this before responding.

Like Alisande, I only see one about once a year...just passing through. I put out a lot of bird seed. I put black oil sunflower seeds in the feeders in the yard and I get a free mix that is a lot of milo and some sunflower seeds donated to me by Walmart, and I put it out along the driveway for the doves. It is so dry here. Right now I have 5 bird baths in the lower part of my yard, which is only about 1/2 acre big, but ran the horse water troughs over yesterday, and couldn't believe all the doves down there bathing. I guess I'm fortunate. I see sparrows in town, but out here in the country, we don't have them. Bluebirds can be seen in this area...supposedly, but the only time I ever saw them, was a pair in the yard of the old man that I look after a couple of towns over, and he couldn't have cared less. That was a few years ago. Now he has a pair of hawks nesting in a tree right out his door, and I can't even get him to walk to the door to look out at them.

Hi. Pin end or plain end? Don't forgot to check that when you buy them to save yourself some trouble! If you are in the States and want to buy these from Stockade in Canada your dollar will go a whole bunch further. I believe Winfield in the States also carries them. I have used them and don't like them as they wear out to fast, so I bought myself a contour sander. Oscillating sanders are excellent also, but a bit more expensive. Worth it in the long run if you are doing a fair amount of work though. Good Luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Stockade

Well, it is thoughtful. I'd be giving her diamonds! Okay, they may be industrial-grade diamonds, but hey, it's the thought that counts, right?

Raimondi needs to get their marketing kids up to speed. The stealth fighter is obsolete and the aircraft were mothballed a few years ago, they're all de-winged and parked out in Nevada, gathering dust.

Bill, a vaccuum cleaner is just Not The Same as a tile saw. One is cleaning, upkeep, one is *making*, as pepperidge farm so astutely stated...I see I have DIY sisters here who share my unnatural passion :)

and mongo, what should they call the blade? I bet you could get them to rename it for a newer line...

Maybe instead of marketing the arbor size as 5/8", they could market it as a size 6 diamond crusted ring?

Another "tool girl" here. One year I was so thrilled to get a power miter saw for Christmas! No more hand saw and miter box. I also love all my cordless tools. We gave our daughter a cordless drill for Christmas a few years ago, and she gets quite a bit of use out of it. One year, we bought my DH a new BBQ for Father's Day, and my DD was the one to put it together, not her brother. I would much rather get "practical" gifts than jewelry. I enjoy having a few "good" pieces of jewelry, but mostly wear inexpensive stuff every day.

Ha Bill, my DH said it was a diamond ring as well...and terri, I love the idea of your DD putting the grill together. Did you get pics of that? You could keep them for future generations of tool girls to admire and be inspired by :)

Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of my DD putting that grill together. It was about 6 - 7 years ago, while she was still in high school. Now that she's living on her own she has had several opportunities to use her tools. One year in college she shared a house with several girls and boys. They kept having trouble with the wall heater - pilot light wouldn't light - and she managed to get it working. The boys just put on sweatshirts.

What a girl! If my DD ever did that, I'd just explode with pride :)

(Not looking good for our Kitz, I'm afraid. I can't believe it. DH says it's because he refrained from really campaigning :( )

Still a favorite "girls vs tool" moment of mine was years ago, I'd guess my daughter was 6 years old. I bought a new table saw, the unopened boxes were sitting in the basement. Went down into the basement the next morning and there she was, putting it together for me. No kidding.

All the pieces were laid out, it was a contractor's saw, she was bolting the legs and leg braces together as a surprise for gold ole dad. I grabbed the camcorder and caught her in action. It's one of those home video moments that I just crack up when watching.
