I felt the same way. Two years ago we bought a SS fridge because we wanted to update our kitchen. It's the brushed SS , but it still shows way too many fingerprints, spots and dust for my liking. I looked around and found that the newest trend is a copper color. Nice, but we wanted ours to fade away and not become center stage in our kitchen. After much looking and comparing, we decided to go with a cabinet front model. Demo on our present kitchen is scheduled for 10/1. BTW, our double oven, MW drawer and cooktop will all be black. Even though SS appliances are pretty and very up-to-date, not all of us want to live with them. Good luck finding the perfect "fit" for your kitchen.

We've had panelled refrigerators for 20 years. No, we can't do the magnet thing, but that's kept them looking neat & pristine. We hung a magnet board around the corner for all the photos & works of art.

I have a 'textured black' (not shiny/glossy black) fridge now. It looks just fine - I'd say it disappears into the kitchen quite well. It also hides fingerprints/dirt quite well.. don't think the 'shiny' black would do as good a job of that, though.

Jenn-air makes a KD FD fridge with "floating" black glass doors. It is really beautiful and reflects the light in the room.

I'm thinking of getting a particular SS fridge and painting it. Picking a color is tricky though...

I am with you. I think SS went out in the late 90's.

I'm doing white, in my black and white kitchen. Again!

We did all black appliances. I don't think the refrigerator looks like a "black hole" and frankly don't know people started thinking that it could. Just a bunch of propaganda from appliance mfrs wanting you to pay a premium for stainless, maybe. Ours is a GE profile bottom freezer, in textured black. We love it! We didn't want to pay the extra price for stainless, and liked the idea of defying trends.

We have all black appliances and it doesn't look like a black hole. However, when we ordered the fridge the salesperson told us it would come in a textured black when I asked her if it was glossy or textured. The spec sheet for the chosen LG FD didn't give any information beyond the color black, nor was there any black fridge in the showroom (all ss of course!) so we relied on her information. Unfortunately, the fridge arrived in a glossy black. That shows almost as much fingerprints as ss :-(

I don't really like the pleather look of textured fridges, but there are some nice finishes out there now in the traditional colors. Can't beat the pleather for fingerprint hiding though!

The glass fronted fridge is quite gorgeous but I can't imagine it looking good in MY house very often.

I have seen the SS fridges in friends homes. They do show fingerprints. I have the SS ovens, microwave and range top but went with the panel ready FD CD Jenn Air. I'm happy with my decision.

We definitely did not want SS appliances for three reasons:
(1) Fingerprints - we have two boys, and two full-time jobs.
(2) Coldness - we like warm colors and feel the SS look is cold/industrial.
(3) Backgound appliances - we wanted our appliances to recess, rather than compete for center stage in our kitchen.

So we chose a bisque color. Unfortunately, the company manufacturing our range (Frigidaire, I believe) discontinued its bisque range line right after we ordered, so we went with GE instead. I did learn that bisque is one of the few standardized colors among appliance brands.

We had seriously considered stainless steel, but now that the kitchen is done, we're so glad we went with bisque appliances. It's hard to envision everything before it's finished: wall color, flooring, backsplash, countertops, cabinets, appliances. There are so many decisions.

We have white cabinets and black-front dishwasher, oven, microwave, and trash compacter. We replaced our white fridge recently. DH wanted black, so we chose a glossy black GE FD CD fridge. It's taller than the old one so looks pretty imposing, but I think that may just be my perspective in relation to the old one. Still, if it were solely my decision I'd have chosen white. The black does tend to show some fingerprints etc., though probably not as badly as SS would.

I do like that bisque, Jan_in_Wisconsin. I have to wonder, though, is that the just-remodeled picture before you actually started using it, or are you REALLY that uncluttered!? Wow!

Ditto re: your lovely kitchen... it looks inviting and FUNCTIONAL!! Given the island, and not being able to get your 1st choice in Bisque, i think the Textured Black will look nice... b/c of the black hinges and accents in the kitchen and especially if you are not going with a 24" counter depth Ref/Fr
In a rural cottage kitchen done with white counters and walls, and lots of dark wood open country-style shelving: we have a KitchenAid bottom freezer, Black Textured (not sidebyside). All refrig like this are bulky of course, and i like the black better than the white b/c of the other black accents (such as glass panel on D/W and oven). The white seemed bulkier to me.

In most cases, white appliances kind of disappear for me. Like I don't see them, except when I need to use them. Been a universal color for kitchen appliances for a long time.
