screen same size but everything smaller?

Not sure what I did but I apparently did something! I have my screen maximized but everything is appearing smaller. Previously, for example, when I pull up Garden Web it would fill most of the screen, but now it just fills up the middle of the screen with lots of blank space on either side of it. Same with everything else. I am running Firefox on a mac computer. What did I do and what can I do to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

look at the far upper right corner and you'll see a dash; an outline of a box; and an x.

Click the box for a full-sized screen.

I am not a Mac person, but she does report she has the screen maximized.

Charina, Probably what you got is too fine to begin with.. There are so many different bark products, : Large Nugget, Medium Nuggets, Small Nuggets, Mini Nuggets, Shredded/crushed mulch. And there is no standard out there. These product are made and sold regionally and used as mulch in land escaping. This is one of the difficulties in making a good consistent 5-1-1 mix. Having said that, my understanding and conceptualization is that 5-1-1 has to have a balanced amount from dust to nuggets up tp 1/2" . Depending on the grade, you can play with the peat. In your case you may eliminate it and further more screen SOME of the fine dust out of the bark. Once again, mixing 5-1-1 is not very routine and I don't think it is for everyone. JMO

Yes, Swan Island has an open house in the summer & they cut everything off at the same height so people can take pictures of the fields & they will be uniform. It will set the blooms back - you'd have to figure out how much bloom you want to give up & how long it'll take the plants to recover. Do you "stop" your dahlias when they get to about a foot tall? This is done early in the season to keep plants shorter & bushier & doesn't get rid of as many blooms as mowing them off later in the season. For watching movies on DVD or watching true HD TV programming, I suggest a screen width that's half the distance to prime seats, or perhaps a little wider. That's assuming your plasma will be HD capable (are there any models that aren't??) The rule of thumb used by architects designing high-end home theatres is that the screen should fill about the same proportion of your field of vision as would a movie screen when you're sitting ~ 2/3 back from the front of the theatre. It will give you the "big screen feeling" of a real movie theatre experience, but you will be far enough back from the screen that normal image defects (and all TVs/projectors, etc. have them) won't be noticeable and spoil your experience. All of this assumes that you'll also have the correct DVD player, wiring, cable/satellite box, cable/satellite signal and feed, etc. so that your HD capable plasma screen actually receives a true HD signal. We use a LCD projector, and view on an 8 foot wide screen from 13 feet back from the screen. It gives us the real movie experience, but you could get the same "big screen feeling" by sitting 6.5 feet from a 4 foot wide screen since it fills exactly the same proportion of your field of vision as does ours.

When DD went to off to college last year, she took our LR TV which was something like 17" or so. We rarely watch TV in our house. When I replaced that TV, I did go up in size, but only to a 32" Samsung. Great picture and best size for our LR. LR is 15'x21', and when I first gave in and put a TV in that room, I did not want an entertainment center in my LR. After an exhaustive search for something that was not manufactured expressly as a TV stand, I found a nice black painted piece with a top drawer and 5" double doors under the drawer - use as a spot to hide the DVDs we have. The piece definitely isn't a TV stand per se, but I love it in my LR. When I had to replace the TV last Fall, I specifically chose one that didn't overwhelm my piece. I shopped much more for the quality. Those huge TVs would be a waste in our home. Just last night on the way home from dinner out, we drove around a bit to look at the holiday lights/decorating in our area. Some of the homes had TVs that were so were big, DH & I were commenting about how we could literally watch TV sitting in our car at the curb. The bigger concern would be the quality of the TV, as previous posters have outlined for you, what to look for in a good TV. Personally, I hate when the enormous TV overtakes a room and becomes the focal point. JMHO

yes, the screen is maximized. I will keep trying to figure it out but for the moment I am getting used to it the way it is so I suppose that is better than nothing!

I don't know if this will help, but have you tried placing the cursor on the corner edges of screen and stretching it to fit?

it's weird. The screen is the right size, it fills the entire screen of my computer. But the print on the various websites looks smaller. However I am getting used to it by now, lol, so I will just keep trying different things to fix it when I get on the computer. Thanks for the suggestion!

If it were a Windows system I would suggest ctrl+ to enlarge the presentation. Mac? I don't know. Worth a try.

Is it just affecting Safari?

Look at this article on the Apple Forums. Not just changing the font size but dragging the file com.apple.safari.plist from Home/Library/Preferences/ to the desktop. If Safari is back to normal after trying that you can apparently trash can the plist (preferences) file that you just moved. Launching Safari after dragging the file builds another preferences file. Kind of like resetting IE to default on a Windows computer.
