Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 Problems

I have a HP pavilion DV5000 running Win xp, it has Sonic Digital Media Plus v7 installed but I'm currently having problem burning CD'S i have read where there supposed to be a patch to fix this but have had no luck finding it..

is there another Free CD/DVD burner others use ??

I have used DeepBurner for a few years now and find it very good. Be sure to click for the free version, that is all I have.

I have the same DVD/CD burner on my HP computer and I did have problems burning DVD's after I uninstalled Norton and put Avant on my computer. I found out that I needed to shut down Avant when I burned DVD's or else it just didn't work right and kept running forever and then gave me a message that there was problems and I needed to try again. I think Avant's scanning was interferring with Sonic. Once I turned off Avant Sonic worked fine.
