Baking Stone smells like burning plastic
Comments (2)Perhaps your friend put oil on top? or perhaps...shudder....a piece of saraan? If you can stand the smoke....burn it off....maybe put in on the outdoor grill and heat it up. Ask your friend what might have been on top. But my next question....is why did she let you have it? Maybe she did something dumb like try to clean it with oven cleaner?? Comments (4)The problem here is that the manufacture was making these with metal originally the went to Plastic in order to make more money. The problem is that plastic at high heat causes health problems, like cancer. For the most part they only make them with stainless steel tanks now. If you have a unit that smeels like this sopt using it immediately. Replace it with one that has a stainless steel tank. The manufacture(s) do(es) not like to advertise this problem for obvious reasons....See MoreNew dishwasher smells like PLASTIC!
Comments (15)We have the same problem. A brand new Miele dishwasher, installed Jan 2024. It replaced our old Miele dishwasher that we had from ~2009. We cannot believe how bad the 'chemical materials' smell from the new Miele. It's been a week, and it is non-stop nauseating. We have all four of us in the house have headaches and I have intestinal pains. I've run it two dozen times, with sani hot cycle, and with detergent, and I finally then also did the cup of vinegar in a bowl in the bottom rack as others had suggested. Our beautiful home has turned into a place where we feel we are constantly being poisoned by the smell, it is so strong. It doens't seem like it's something in a finish, it seems more like coming from the actual materials used to make the machine somehow, like maybe they have some plastic or metal components contributing to the smell. Just really terrible off-gassing kind of smell, but really strong. We've been keeping the door open entirely after running it to try and help it dry well and air out, and then keeping the door unlatched so the smell isn't 'sealed up inside', but it's hardly improving. I'm so frustrated with these chemical engineers who don't have a better understanding of the effects on human or environmental health in the materials they select, and I have lost some trust in Miele as a company over this. I certainly understand that they have a lot of health considerations when choosing materials to use (and then monitor the qualities of throughout sourcing and manufacture), such as bacterial resistance, operations under different water conditions, etc., but there is something very off about these chemical smells here, and I would not consider them fit for washing our dishes or being in our home. I understand from reading others' comments that this is common with newer dishwashers now, but if anyone has any experience with companies that don't have terrible off-gassing from new materials, like the kind of off-gassing that you know will never really go away that is, then I would really like to hear....See MoreNew HVAC flex ductwork new plastic smell
Comments (17)The ac techs were back at the house today. The replaced the spare bath duct line and the smell went away! I am still not sure why. I smelled the duct work they removed and I smelled inside the box that was connected to the spare bath line. I smelled the boot that they created using duct board and there was an odor to it. It didn't match exactly the smell I was smelling but it was close. They said they used spray adhesive to create the boxes and I asked them not to use it when they made the new boxes. I am not sure if that was the change that made the difference but I am happy nonetheless that the smell is gone. They are going to come out tomorrow to change out the rest of the effected duct lines. I have my fingers crossed that the change solves the problem for the rest of the ducts. I asked the ac techs why only certain vents would be effected if the same materials were used for all the vents. They said they had 3 techs creating boxes that day. Some may have used the spray and others didn't. I am not sure why the spray adhesive is still giving off such a potent smell 5 1/2 weeks after the install. Have my fingers crossed that we can finally have our home back tomorrow!...See Moresummiebee
