Is bullnose edge in a bathroom a contemporary look?

I'm deciding on edges for all the surfaces in this house, kitchen and bath. In the master bath, the solid surface company that has the color I want (an ivory, not biscuit)only offers chamfer and bullnose; another company offers a more traditional looking dropdown bullnose (dupont like) that I like more, but can only get it in white. Undermount white bowls in both.

These vanity tops are going in a traditional style bath the Landsale carrara tile from the Tile Shop, which is a warmer looking marble with tan/grey veining. Cabinets are white. I know there are design gurus on here who can help! x-posting in kitchens. Thank you!

I'd stay clear from a bullnose edge because the rounded edge directs water spills to land on your cabinets so it's not an ideal edge for sink areas.

I think that a metal edge can look very nice, particularly in more modern rooms, but our personal preference is bullnose. We were told by our tile supplier that the tile we chose doesn't come in bullnose. I took a sample tile to other suppliers to find a bullnose that would work with it and found my exact tile elsewhere...with the matching bullnose! It turns out that the first tile supplier "doesn't like" bullnose and they'll tell people that it's not available when its just not available through THEM. That may be your situation at all but, just in case, I thought I'd mention it so that you can confirm bullnose availablilty on the manufacturers' websites if that's what you prefer to use. If you do opt for a metal edge, I'd use satin nickel to match your other finishes and make it less obtrusive.

Just got a new countertop and, carelessly, I kind of thought I was all set to get a straight edge based on my pre-install conversation with the measurer. But sure enough, my contract states 1/2 bullnose. I prefer eased, as one of the previous posters. It's what I had in my previous location. I do have a functional peninsula which has a large overhang and my agent is trying to convince me it's more practical and it turned out this way for the best. And I admit, I can't quite see it being an eased edge, with its arced shape. I also found this article: http://www.kitchenbathdesign.com/879/reasons-to-round-over-your-square-sharp-edges/ which argues 1/2 bullnose or similar is the way to go, from a functional standpoint. There's not post-installation straightening that can be applied? Maybe I'll learn to like it. At least the inside of my sink is an eased edge.

Schluter Strip for Contemporary Bathroom

I hate splashes from filthy children (and healthy kids are frequently filthy), so I took the tile to the ceiling on the sink wall and tub surround. Other walls had the schluter. I used it as an accent throughout. (World’s narrowest bathroom has laundry through the door!) You can also miter ANY tile (except glass)—you just back out from the edge a tiny bit so you don’t chip it. With some tiles, you can lay this so tightly that it doesn’t need caulk. With others, a bit of color-matched (to grout) caulk, and the peek of the body color was hidden. I did the schluter because I paid someone not quite as proficient as I am to do this, and with the brick joint, you have to have a raw edge somewhere. John Bridge forums taught me this! The guys there are amazing! Here is a place where I taught him the back-joint trick and it worked with the layout. And NO, it wasn’t supposed to be grouted—which is why it cracked immediately. I haven’t gotten around to digging that out yet and redoing it. I have the caulk I bought for doing it. I didn’t catch it in time. This wasn’t through-body porcelain. Bulnosing wasn’t an option.

You don't need to finish the edges. I have a contemporary home and all the bathroom mirrors simply have a polished edge. It looks finished, and doesn't draw attention. The mirrors in two of the bathrooms single mirrors that are glued flat to the wall; the ones in the master hide built-in medicine cabinets and float about an inch off the wall supported by a simple, inset wood frame that matches the cabinetry: I've never felt that the mirrors in any of the bathrooms needed frames or any edge treatment.

The ogee is the most common vanity edge that I have seen. Its too bad the fabricator only has two options though. I don't think bullnose is that bad however, there should be enough overhang for the water to drop to the floor instead of the cabinets.

ummm, obviously you don't know your edges marble.com as the rounded shape of the bull nose edge tends to DIRECT the water to the cabinet regardles of how big the over hang is, which btw is typically 1.5 inches.

Lukkiirish your right I have that problem in my existing kitchen, never really gave it a thought cause the cabinets are cheep builder grade and I have already replaced one door due to rot. I see some of the problem now.
I think the squared thick edge is a nice contemporary look and what I am seeking for my bathroom counter but she is right some of these places only offer the bullnose. So you gotta keep looking. It's a big Job thats what I was doing today was looking for counters.
