Not sure how old your husband is, but the older I get, the more I appreciate my 12v LI cordless drill! I have the Hitachi and I love it. I also have an 18v Bosch that is much heavier, but also makes both my shoulder and elbow problems flare up much quicker. For fast jobs where I'm not holding the drill above my head or at odd angles, the heavier drill is fine. But, I'd much rather reach for my smaller drill. So far, I've completely remodeled my house, built a fence, deck, done drywall- all with my 12v drill. I have 3 batteries and when I'm working one is always ready in the charger. The smaller drill has adjustable settings, so I can put together stuff from IKEA without stripping screws. The 18v has way too much power, and would surely strip those. I also have an electric screwdriver that I could use for simpler things, but prefer the feel of the drill. I think it's a very personal thing, have him try them out buy holding them at the store. And remember, most of the displays don't include the heavy part- the battery- so make sure to take that into consideration. And always buy the best brand you can. The first drill I bought was a Black & Decker, and it has been charged maybe twice in the 6 years I've had it. I prefer quality tools- and that one isn't.

Will you use it more than just a couple times/year? If yes, treat yourself to quality. I made the mistake of buying a Ryobi kit and forever wished I had that $100 bucks back (or whatever it was) to apply to something better. Next, among he good names (Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita and others), see how they fit in your hand. For what it's worth, I have a large hand and recall Bosch being too big. Makita is great, but my hand didn't quite fit the tool and I thought I'd end forever with a blister above my thumb... Anyway, find something comfortable. Next, think about the tool packages. Last year I bought an 18volt Milwaukee kit and I got their "hackzall" (one handed sawzall). That is one darned useful tool that I couldn't have imagined when I first got it. That kit also came with a hammerdrill and impact. Both nice tools. (BTW, a light on the drill is a must-have.) Buy good tools.

Thanks, Lazypup! I would like to add my 2 cents worth. I will be taking your suggestion and adding to it. I currently keep ALL my emergency medical information in my wallet, and in each vehicle, and in my phone. I designed my emergency medical form based on the Girl Scout over night permission slip/medical form. It includes all my doctors, including what that doctor is for, thier phone numbers, Any allergies, any surgeries, all the medications I take, and emergency contact information. I have a form for my DH, and both of my parents, also. I keep it updated, and in the computer also. A friend who is a full time RV'er, and cancer survivor, also keeps copies of all of her exrays and mamograms and lates blood work on her thumb drive. Something I learned a long time ago to make a copy of my blood work orders and mamogram orders. It was a good thing I did, too. Where I had my diagnostic mamogram messed up and coded it as a regular mamogram. As I had already had on for the year, the insurance wouldn't pay it. Needless to say the imaging center tried to get me to pay the bill, and would not change the coding. I explained it to the representative, who tried very hard to help me, but the higher ups wouldn't let her change the code. I happened to remember I had made a copy, and sent it to her. I was absolutely amazed, and grateful, that she took the time to call me after hours on a Friday, saying that she had gotten it fixed, it would go thru insurance as it should be. And she appologized because she couldn't call me the day before, because she and her son had been in an accident! Even with being in an accident, she was thinking of me. I made certain she knew how much I appreciated it. Glad to hear your daughter finished her trip safely. Tami
