Back Lighting A Shower Shampoo Niche
Comments (13)I am having fun with this. This light feature is for my four best clients (My wife and three daughters). I often find inspiration at work or when talking with clients. I tell my clients just to spit stuff out - wish list, likes etc. There is no such thing as a crazy idea in my book. If you can think it - most likely there is a way to build it. My inspiration for this detail came from working with such nice products and such a skilled designer on our last project. The steps needed to make it waterproof are easy - the advice is all around us. I will show you my fully completed rig once done. I'm going to try and source an inexpensive LED light system with most likely 3 lights, light controller and remote (similar to the shower lights we used last from the UK). When I roughed in my home I ran some extra dedicated 12/2 and 14/2 lines into these attic cavities. The bathroom lighting circuits have been keep separate to allow me to expand my finishing touches as my bank account slowly expands from it's compressed and sad state. For the next year or so it will be a trouble light and an extension cord! Good for now. The effect is still there. I have 3 other light features planned for the home. Stand by for mock ups... Comments (15)There initially was a comment before mine dated May 26, 2017 which was deleted. It does look silly without it still being there. Many pros look at the date prior to opening a thread. There is a current thread in the pro to pro section on this very topic due to some recent Houzz format changes. By using an old thread you are short changing yourself on available advise. Also due to the rapid advances in technology and products available now many responses given 5 years ago will not be the same as the ones provided to you today. Not to say there is not valuable information in older threads. That's why I bring it up and why you should care. There is your 2017 answer:)...See Moredifferent grout colors in shower niche v. shower walls?
Comments (4)@Evan Low - I am not the OP but I recently remodeled and I have several different colors of tile as well as marble counters, bench and curb. The grout for my tiles was chosen to go with the specific color of each of the color tiles on the walls and this was carried through in the shower....See MoreBacksplash/Shower Niche Tile Suggestions w/ White Midpoint Tile Shower
Comments (3)With those formal shapes on the floor and shower walls I wouldn't go free form on the niches. I would do 1-inch square glass tiles with some subtle color that references the floor. Or maybe see if you could cut the floor tiles to somehow work in the niches. Follow the lead of your inspiration rooms - you've got stunning floor and wall tiles- let them star and don't give them too much competition. Otherwise it starts to look too busy IMHO. Edited to add another option would be a solid color tile if you could find one matching one of the colors in the floor and a complimentary shape to the shower and floor. Free form circles just doesn't do it for me in your setting....See Morebill_vincent
