Has anyone downloaded SP3?

I just finished the Zone Alarm/Microsoft update disaster on my 3 computers and all seems to be fine. I still haven't dealt with SP3 and wonder if everyone has put it in.

nope I am all current on windows updates except for sp3 and since what it does is mostly give you all the windows updates since sp2 I doubt I will add it. The minor core changes it makes are of no interest to me. IF at any point in time they make it a mandatory update to get further windows udpates I may add it but it is doubtful that will happen. If it were a major security update I would do it.
That is a decision each person needs to make on their own once they have weighed the pros and cons.

Have you run this program if not do so, Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Â Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. Â If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Â Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. Â The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. Â When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Â Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. Â When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note) Â The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. Â Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply. Jane no doubt it will be an Apple commercial if it is not already! I saw one last night that could have been about this reboot over and over situation, have to admit those commercials are funny. IF you have your computers fully updated with all the windows updates and you do not want to tackle this now you do not have to (totally up to you), this is not a super critical update like sp2 was, it is rated moderate. There are some additional changes it makes to the system itself which microsoft would like people to install. But I know a lot of people have decided to at least wait some time to see if there might be some hotfixes that come out to handle some of the issues that are cropping up and there has been discussion in the microsoft forums that this time they may actually put out a hotfix for some of the problems prior to pushing out sp3 in auto update. So waiting is not a bad idea at this point. I would suggest though that you uninstall your IE 7 through add remove before you do install sp3, because if you do not you will not be able to do so at any time in the future and it also affects the ability to try to do fixes on IE7 should they be needed. You can just take it out, put in sp3 when you decide to, then put IE7 back. Or just stay as you are and continue getting your other regular critical windows updates. It is your choice. At this point in time they will not stop you from getting your windows updates just because you do not have sp3, so don't be concerned about that.

Sorry for all the confusion...I'll try to explain more clearly. Ravencajun answered my 1st posted question which lead into my 2nd concern as follows: 1. Desktop is an old Dell with XP which has word, excel, powerpoint 2000 on it. Bitdefender is my protection. 2. Laptop is a year old HP with Vista Home Premimun with kaspersky protection. Kaspersky finds vunerabilities on the laptop which came with word, excel, powerpoint 2000 on it. These 3 programs are the vulnerabilities that show up during my scan on the laptop along with a Microsoft Office/MS09.dll. Now my concern is that Microsoft has no fix for these vulnerabilities for either vista or xp. I use all 3 programs quite a bit with very sensitive information on them and am concerned about attackers being able to take control of my 2 computers with these vulnerabilities that have no fix solution by Microsoft. I don't know if SP3 on my desktop would correct the problem but like ravencajun because the computer is old I don't want to chance downloading it. Bitdefender doesn't show vulnerabilities during a scan but I am assuming that regardless of whether it is XP or Vista.... Microsoft Office has these problems with no solutions for a fix. I hope this makes things more clear as to my concern. It is about Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint versions 2000). Thanks for everyone trying to help me...I need it....

I have SP3 on two computers: a Gateway Notebook XP Home and a Dell Desktop XP Media. Both seem fine, better? I don't know. I've been thinking of putting it on my HP Laptop XP Home, but have not yet.

I think I'll hold off. Enough excitement for the time being. How do I get it to stop showing in my tray? I don't want to be reminded anymore.

you can just go to the windows update website and uncheck it there, tell it to hide it, so it does not show it or you can use the tool microsoft has put out to block it from coming to you in updates

I'm still on the "fence" on my HP Pavilion, one of the troublesome with AMD processors, per PC World. PC World recommends using an XP "readiness tool" available at [find.pcworld.com/60878] I may give it a try, and resurrected this thread as it come up on my search this morning on "SP3" when I was checking to see if anyone had posed on the "readiness tool".

Jerry you may find your answer on Jasper's blog, linked below. (A long read) It also seem the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard is not compatible with SP3

Thanks, owbist, Jasper looks to be an impressive guy...reading his brief bio : >) That information confirms there is a ongoing concern for some computers.

I have SP3 on a Gateway notebook, now using, and a Dell DT. Both use Intel processors and run fine, far as I can tell, with SP3. They both boot normally, that is a definite.
