Quartz Shower Surround
Comments (26)Corian, Swanstone, Kohler Choreoraph, and Transolid are all covered in this thread. We have been talking about solid surface showers here for years. You can search the forum by using the search function at the top of the page. My 37 x 63 Transolid shower cost under $4000 and that included a sheet of the material to cover the ceiling with and the shower pan. [Here is the thread on solid surfaces that is most recent.[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/kohler-choreograph-dsvw-vd~3420698?n=216) I think that the Corian, Choreograph and Swanstone showers I have seen pictures of look the best. Not as shiny as quartz, but nice. And a multitude of color and pattern choices with Swanstone or Corian. Someone posted recently, though, that they can't find Corian showers any longer. Don't know if that is true....See MoreShower wall slab: porcelain vs. quartz
Comments (13)I was discussing whether to go with 12 mm porcelain slab or not for my shower walls with the fabricator. The fabricator told me that the porcelain slabs on walls with shower niche will have at least 4 seams, 2 seams on each side of the shower niche to prevent it from chipping/cracking during installation. Not sure if this is true or if my fabricator lacks the experience and or tools to install porcelain slab on shower walls. Hoping someone here knows. Also, does anyone have experience with porcelain slabs on shower walls? Any chips at all especially around shower niche or shower bench?...See MoreDoes anyone here have experience using quartz on shower walls?
Comments (4)$80 would be rock bottom. Not sure I‘d trust anyone who charged the same amount as a counter top. This is much harder than you think. The material has to actually be able to travel through the house and through the bathroom door. Very often, that route isn’t large enough to have that happen, and walls must be taken down, and rebuilt, just to get it in the bathroom. Now, the bath walls have to be super flat and plumb. That requires reframing all of lf them, or sistering all of them. Before the job is ever templated. You don’t get to cut a faucet hole in it after it’s installed. Your shower stub outs are fixed in place, and this has to fit precisely. Plus the stainless lugs in the studs that this has to mount to, etc. $100 a square would be more the starting point. And only a very few folks in each region are going to really have the skill to start thinking about this....See MoreShower wall product options
Comments (13)Lisa, go to Swanstone.com and click “where to buy.” https://swanstone.com/en/where-to-buy Look for someone who sells it near you. I found that many people who sell it do not have displays of it, but a few do. If there are any real bathroom showrooms in your area, call them and ask if they have sample pieces to see. Years ago, Swanstone sent out huge 2’ x 2’ samples of their newer colors. I saw that size of Ice, Tundra, and a few others in that group at one showroom, but they were shoved behind a display and only a few employees knew they were there. Swan will mail you 6” x 6” samples, too. But seeing the bigger samples was very helpful! Lowe’s now sells Swanstone, but it is likely that you will get better service at a showroom. Lowe’s will only have small samples, and most associates will have no experience ordering it. You may (may not?) get a better price there....See MoreUser
