Grout size for white 3x6 subway tile
Comments (2)We liked the 1/16" look for ours. Our colors are practically the reverse of yours--grey tile & pearl grout. We have a combination of 3x6s (top 2/3 of the shower) and 10x13s (bottom 1/3) separated by 1x12 decorative glass listellos. To me, the grout lines always look a little larger when complete anyway, so I would go smaller rather than larger. Plus it's less space for anything yucky to grow! Comments (10)I have epoxy white grout in my shower and I wipe the walls down after each days worth of showers. Usually just me though. I have not had to "clean" my shower, (except the shower pan, which is cast iron) in a year. I have "cleaned" my shower probably 3 times in 5 years (except of course for the floor, which I don't wipe down after showers). I use a large auto detailing microfiber towel, one layer thick. It dries with in 12 hours. I always use a vent fan. I have enough space under my room door to account for makeup air so the vent can work. Drying all the walls and caulking has worked for years for me. In my 3x5' shower with glass doors, it takes 70 seconds to wipe it all down along with the fixtures....See Morehow hard is it to keep a tile and grout tub/shower surround clean?
Comments (5)The best way to reduce grout maintenance in a shower is to use the right grout in the installation. The old cement-based grouts were hard to keep clean. Many seemed to grow mildew like it was a cash crop. The newer urethane grouts are essentially a durable plastic, non-porous, and do not provide hiding places for mildew. We use nothing but in our bathrooms on floors, walls and shower surrounds. It's more expensive than cement grout, but considering the overall cost of a tile job, the different is minimal. Quartzlock was the original urethane product. It has now been bought out by Bostik. It is definitely a pro product, not recommended for any but the most experienced DIYers....See MoreOlychick
