Mold resistant grout for subway tile surround

Hello,

Our bathroom is being remodeled, and I have just a few days to make a final decision on the tile for the tub/shower surround. I love the subways, and am planning on either white grout on white tile, or a very light gray tone grout.

I talked to our GC and the tile contractor, and I understand that we could go with the 1/16 unsanded grout, which makes installation a little easier (built in spacers in the tile), but was suggested doing the 1/8 sanded grout for it's mold resistant properties. The tile guy said he has had bad experience with unsanded being harder to keep clean, and mold/mildew free.

I like the look of both 1/16 and 1/8 width. The white on white makes it less visible than darker greys, and I would not care at all, but the need for spacers, and double the grout will bump the cost of installation up.

Is there a way to safeguard the grout from mold? Mixing additive? Specific brand that does better with constant water/steam exposure?

I appreciate your answers!
Marty
