An internal error occurred in the Microsoft Internet extensions

That is the message I get when I try to check for new emails via Incredimail.

I have cleaned things up using ccleaner, but still get that message. I have XP.

What might I try next? Please remember I am 'challenged'.

Any help is appreciated.

Something to do until someone can give you a better answer.

1. Start - my computer - Right click Local Disks C - Properties - Tools Tab - Error Checking Section -
Check Now - Check mark both boxes - Click Start.
This will start when you Restart your computer. It take about 35 minute on mine. 5 parts and the last 2 takes
the longest.

2.The second thing to try is -
Start - Run - type - sfc /scannow - OK
Don't forget the space between c and /
You need the Recovery CD that came with your Computer if it finds anything wrong.
Don't insert unless asked for.
If it doesn't find anything it will just close.
Takes about 35 minutes.

Then use the Defragmenter.

Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Defragmenter - Analyze and Defragment.

Thanks cboy...you sure know the right way to post instructions for 'the challenged'.
Even I was able to do that with no problems.

It did not correct my problem, but I had never done that b4, so I guess it is a good thing that I did, and now know how.

Here is something else I did not mention earlier.

Last Sat I got hooked up the Wild Blue Satellite ISP service. My Incredimail has worked all week until just yesterday.

Below is what Mikie told me...
I dont find that particular error for incredamail(which I'm unfamiliar with) but.. that error for the most part tends to mostly mean you have some configuration(s) wrong for your networked internet connection,,, or a dial up modem connectoid needs removed or disabled because its still active.

Well I had 2 dial up providers b4 I got Wild Blue, and I still have them...in time I will cancel one or both of them.
Yesterday there was a storm, and WB went out. While it was out, I used my dial-up connection. Then the storm passed and the skies cleared, and I got back on WB. I 'think' it was after that that I started having the problem.

Hmmmmm. I think I will
turn off computer
unplug WB
reboot comp
connect to dial-up
log off dial-up
turn off comp
plug in WB modem and wait for it to cycle (lights to stabilize)
and turn computer back on.

I'll be back after that is done.

I'm really just shooting in the dark here.

I can't find anywhere where it says on the box that Norton Antivirus 2009 has a firewall. But I read on another forum that this particular version does have a firewall inbound only. This is very confusing. If I do have a firewall from Norton then I need to shut off the Windows Firewall right? If so then how do I get rid of that red shield with the X in the middle of it? also have you tried choosing custom rather than express to see if there is any difference? It sounds like you may have to re register some of your dlls this link provides some info on how to do that Windows Update Not Working or Fails; Reset Windows Update Settings this is basically what seems to work for most people This error may occur if the MSXML3.dll is missing or not properly registered. Nonnie, please don't take offense but I think the problem is more with you being a novice than with Wordperfect. I say that based on a couple clues you give me in your post. One thing is WordPerfect will accept any universal graphics format. Those do not include graphics generated in program-specific formats like Print Shop or Master Prints and other such programs. Universal formats include bmp, jpg, tif, wmf, eps, pcx, png, and there are many others, but these are the most common. WordPerfect will accept all of these and most (if not all) of the others. And, of course, it accepts its own format wpg. To find out what it will accept, go to Insert Picture as if you are going to insert one. Click on the Files of Type arrow at the bottom and scroll to see what all is in there. Files of any other type will not be compatible, which means you might have to tell it to accept more if it isn't already programmed to do that. This is part of setup and is located on your WordPerfect installation disk. Concerning the article you are trying to put into your document, I don't know what that is. Is it type-written words or is it a graphic image? Is it a WordPerfect document? A Word document? A document created in some other program? Or a graphic clip that someone sent you? And how are you trying to insert it? If it is type written, is it possible to copy and paste it in? Please give a little more information? Increasing memory, as Owbist suggested, is always a good. I do know Word is the more popular word processing program used these days, but WordPerfect is also powerful and nothing snuff at LOL. I can understand the documents you receive from people are usually written in Word and having Word will make like a lot easier for you. So, to answer your question, yes you can install and run Word without having to uninstall WordPerfect. Installing Word is simple enough. The installation Wizard will walk you through it. You just follow the instructions on the screen and answer the questions it asks. You may want to instruct submissions to limit file types and size. If I were you, I'd make that only bmp formats because they don't blur or distort as readily as jpg formatted images. Also, people will send 10mg files because they don't know any better. You may want to tell them to limit file size to 1mg or 2 or 3 so you are able to manage the size and functionability of your newsletter pages(s). If you ever have to take your newsletter to a service bureau for printing, they will require jpg images only, so you will need to know that when instructing submissions.

Hi everyone, This is very informative and from what I've read, it said nothing about removing IE7 and it makes sense to me that if you would remove IE7 and then put in IE8 and you didn't like it you wouldn't be able to go back to IE7 because you removed it. Hi Owbist, Do you have an external drive or second internal drive to which you create backups of your computer? If so the answer is quite simple methinks. Backup the whole computer. Install IE8 and test it. If it fails miserably, which it probably will not, then you can restore the backup and carry on as you were. If your version of IE8 is from yesteryear then use the link below and grab the latest version. Thank you for that information and thank you for the link to the download. I was thinking if the old wasn't good now, then I wouldn't want to download that one and start with a new one. Your link will be very helpful. No I don't have an external hard drive, I've looked them up but, didn't know which one was the best one to get or how large of a one I would need. I have flash drives but I don't think you could use one of those to backup a whole computer. raven, Thanks also for the xmarks link I will save that link in case I want to use that one. My problem would be trying to use it once I download it. Yes, by all means use a current link to the upgrade. DA Thank you I will do that.

but not without any hitches.

I had thought that maybe yesterday my WB had locked on while I was on dial-up, and 'think' that may have been the case.

Just now when I connected to dial up, I tried the check for email on Incredimail, and it started to download (via dial-up now) 238 messages that I had just not deleted out of my Hotmail Inbox. I exited Incredimail, and proceeded to log off/turn off/recycle modem/turn on computer.

I then went and cleaned up my Hotmail inbox (except for the few new ones that had not gone into Incredimail yet, and then "Checked for new Mail (with Incrediamil) and they loaded just fine.

Woohoo...maybe I'm getting a bit less challenged...think?

Thanks again cboy! I can use all the help I can get.
