Another question about IE 8

I un installed it as I could not get it configured to save cookies I wanted. It works fine on IE7,but when windows updates,it downloads IE8 again. I am not getting along well with Vista here!! Any way to stop it from installing again? I couldnt find any settings.

Vista is just fine and IE8 is too. They both take some adjusting to and absolutely not saying you personally, but some users don't handle change well.

With the support clock ticking down XP users had better start being at least informed about Win7 as it is based on the Vista architecture, but more focused on performance rather than security. The sky is not falling though as XP will only slowly fade away as prior OSs have.

Run Windows Update. Select View Available Updates. Right click on IE8. Select Hide Update.

If in the future you wish to restore a hidden update just select the proper entry on the left panel of the update report.

You might want to check and see if you have the current version of cCleaner ....they had problems when Ie8 first came out and made a couple new versions quickly right then.

If you use the older version no matter if you marked as saved or not most vista's seemed to delete the cookies the momement you ran ccleaner. IE8 handles cookies differently, would think most cookie managers probably had problems.

This is simplier than it seems, but you need to read some first....

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to weigh in on this discussion, though I've been corresponding privately with ajsmama. The Just-Like-Gregg's recipe intrigued me, so I decided to try it. Here's what I learned: The cucumbers get salty, dilly, and garlicky without becoming pickles, because no vinegar is added and no fermentation occurs. I've had these in the refrigerator for about a month now, and they're now getting a bit too hot from the peppers. But, as I expected, there is no sign of spoilage. When ajsmama wrote me regarding this forum discussion, I was alarmed by a post about listeria in fermented pickles. Now I can't find the post; perhaps it was removed? Anyhow, I looked up the study that was mentioned, "Listeria monocytogenes Survival in Refrigerator Dill Pickles," on the website of the National Center for Home Preservation, and I urge anyone worried about the safety of unpasteurized fermented pickles to do the same. Here's my summary of the study: Cucumbers were soaked in a listeria inoculum for 15 minutes (I recommend washing cucumbers in clean tap water instead). Some of the cukes were then fermented in a weak brine, some in a medium brine, and some in a very strong brine. In all cases, the listeria population increased slightly during the first few days, declined sharply by the end of the seven-day fermentation, and continued to decline slowly during refrigerator storage. Although the listeria didn't disappear entirely, it fell to ONE-ONE HUNDRED-THOUSANDTH of the peak amount. If for fear of listeria you want to avoid eating fermented cucumbers that haven't been heat-processed, you should certainly also avoid eating raw cucumbers or any other raw vegetables or fruits.

That sounds pretty good, as long as it's good compost. The stuff I got from the bulk materials yard I wouldn't have planted right into, but the compost I made myself from horse manure, leaves and kitchen scraps I would have, if I'd have enough. What I discovered is that when I broke up the ground under my beds, the soil fluffed up a lot, so it got incorporated in with the compost. Also, just a little vermiculite goes a long way. I got a 4 cubic foot bag at HD for $13, and spread it between a few beds, and it's great for keeping the soil light. So, I'd add in just a little regular soil, if you've got decent native soil, plus some vermiculite for extra fluffiness, and go for it.

So, if you have a table of 7 and two people don't show at the last minute, you will have a table of five?. End of the world? No. Last time that happened to us, I had planned the seating very carefully and the five that were at that table had a marvelous time, even with two goners (who never even called to cancel or apologize after the fact. Very poor form.) If it were me, I would work hard to get it to sevens and eights. I would also work hard to break up the standard groupings and maybe that is how you can get your proper multiples. Rather than keeping all the friends together, I like to think about who might enjoy getting to know each other. At family events, we always get seated in what I call the "cousins ghetto" and it is largely why I don't look forward to those events. At the party I mentioned above, we mixed family and friends and threw in a few ringers here and there (usually singles with great social skills) and I can't tell you how many people spoke to me afterward to tell me how much they enjoyed the people they sat with, most of whom were new to them. It is more work for you, but I believe a well thought out and creative seating arrangement is central to being a good host and can make a big difference in your guests' experience of the event.

DA, my understanding is Win 7 is a stand alone OS. You don't need Vista at all since its a clean install. Why would it matter if someone wants to avoid Vista? I plan on Win 7, but will not replace XP with Vista.

I've seen several techie types mention they won't change to win7 for themselves after trying it because its essentially the same as vista which they already have spent the time making the way they like it.

Certainly many get it for free. I should have a courtesy copy avail but most likely will procrastinate installing it for a while after its official for same reasons. Certainly wont spend the money for an upgrade version. Its going to be more expensive than vista.

Jane you are correct W7 is a stand alone, but the foundation is Vista architecture. If someone wishes to avoid Vista that is their choice. I do anticipate anyone planning to upgrade a current XP system to Win7 to have some concerns. At this time unless dictated by some outside need I wouldn't replace XP with Vista either. However, it is my personal opinion that with the release of W7 users should be preparing to let XP ride off into the sunset. Once you get too far behind knowledge and experience wise its tough to catch up.

I speak from experience as I loved Win98 and hung on to it for as long as I could personally. I obtained my hands on experience, though limited by the IT people, with Win 2000 and XP at work. By doing so I lost a lot of learning time which could not be made up by reading.

I decided to upgrade to IE8 it seems to be ok the "my favourites" are still in place will have to check the "Web Slice Gallery" I did unistall yahoo tool bar and notice now Google search bar in the upper right corner.
Avast and PCtools firewall is doing it thing ok.
Just hope I have done the right thing.

I have checked my XP machine at several different sources for its readiness for Win 7. The only thing I need is a better graphics card. So I'm really debating about making the change on the same machine so that I won't have to be bothered with moving everything from this one to a new one. It's not a change I'll be making soon, at any rate.

You also may be able to upgrade to windows7 directly from xp, you would need a Vista SP1 disk no windows key needed.

I would think more information will come out soon.

Yes Zep is correct you will be able to upgrade directly from XP to W7.

Bonnie please remember the original "minimum" system requirements announced for Vista were found to be inadequate. I would suggest anyone thinking of upgrading their XP system to W7 not make any hardware or peripheral changes until the new system requirements are validated. As I said, I envision the same types of concerns as users have had in the past. You can't take a model-T and automatically convert it into a Porsche.

Win7 is gonna need 2gb of memory before most will be happy - probably run sluggish on 1gb unless kept stripped down and in good condition ... many xp computers won't have even that much memory capacity.
