ok, i just viewed the toto clayton toilet at a kitchen and bath showroom. VERY nice design. they told me that they do not carry kohler or AS but was "assured" the cotton AND colonial white matches the kohler's white. ???

Does anybody have reliable evidence on this? I guess we're talking eye-witness, hands-on stuff here.

What your showroom told you makes no sense to me. Colonial white and cotton white are really 2 different whites--why would they both be the same as the Kohler white?
When I was in your position matching different brands of whites, I stopped into a paint store and picked up one of those big paint chip sample sheets (I think it happened to be of Benjamin Moore whites) and then went to the different stores that carried the products I wanted and matched the paint chip whites to figure out which worked best. (did that explanation make sense?)

chewtoy, it makes total sense. i have both BM fan decks and plan to order chips from Toto and take the fan deck and chips to find a kohler match.

I just had the same problem. E-mail Toto and ask them to send you the Cotton White and Colonial White chip samples. I got mine pretty quick. I had to e-mail my manufacturer of my BainUltra tub about this issue. I did not see an actual tub in person that I could compare the chips to, but they said my tub will match both Kohler white and Toto Cotton. Taking a chip with to the showrooms would be the way to go. BTW, Cotton White matches Kohler white.

I called Toto and they are going to send me samples of Cotton and Colonial White. The salesperson also told me that Cotton matches Kohler's White and Colonial matches AS white. However, there is NO match for Kohler in the Colonial White. The showroom salesperson that I met yesterday just lost a sale. I would have been LIVID if I ordered the Colonial White and a Kohler White only to find out after delivery that they do not match.
