Shower System

Hello,

Our remodel is in full swing and we need to pick out our shower valve. (just doing a large, walk-in shower--no tub--loads of tubs elsewhere in house) Figured since no tub, we'd do a nicer shower--rain head, handheld and maybe a few body sprays. The plumbing supply store our GC uses suggested Moen or Grohe for their thermostatic/pressure balance valves. These two systems came in somewhere around $2300-2600. Way too much. GC seems to be worried about the actual valve quality--so my question is, how concerned should we be about the valve? We don't want to have to tear out walls to replace in the immediate future, but what is the difference between the $500-700 shower systems (still, an awful lot of money) and those in the Ks? Is anyone familiar with LaToscana fixtures? Can anyone recommend a brand/product? Thanks for any input!

Planning a very similar shower setup, and we are using Grohe, and i have a source which saves me 25%-30% on the fixtures...what model #, or line of fixtures and what is your price, and i'll see how they compare... I think, i'll need to look,my body sprays are from Morovian collection, the shower head is a retro rainshower, and i believe the handheld is also from Morovian...

We have Grohe Moravio Shower set five in our master shower; everything you mentioned except the body spray. We have the thermostatic/pressure balance and rain head.

We had a GC, but we bought all the 'fixtures' ourselves. I think everything we bought was less than $1500 from faucets4cheap.com.

I can’t answer your question, but do have a thing for you to consider. How hard is your water? Do you mind wiping down the chrome in your shower each time (or once a day)? The exterior plumbing pipes that you like will get spotted in hard water unless you wipe them down. My shower is the chrome palace, with grab bars, multiple valves, and hand-held chrome “jewelry.” We wipe it down after use and I have never had to clean it, otherwise. I have Phylrich shower fixtures as well as bathroom faucets. They were great to work with as I wanted blush onyx in the master bath and they did that custom for me. The styke I wanted didn’t come with that option althiugh other styles did. They are a California company. The actual shower head is kade for them by Speakman.

I am also in a shower dilemna. I was looking at the Symmons shower system and read that it is comparable to Hansgrohe albeit less well known and less expensive. I'm not really sure though so hoping some folks with knowledge on this will respond to your post. I have also been trying to figure out if Kohler has something but I cannot put together how to "build" a system on Kohler. I am trying to get a shower/tub filler/hand spray system.

Thank you both for your replies. After going to the supply store again, we found the Kohler purist shower system with watertiles as the body sprays. My husband was sold on the trim. And the prices will be about 20-30% less than the list price. They don't like to quote the wholesale prices to the general public, apparently. Our GC will order them and get the lower prices--they just won't sell to us. That Movario set is quite lovely. Didn't realize how much fixtures cost--it adds up quickly-- a lot like buying a car piece by piece! Thanks again!
