email hacked or a virus?

Wondering if this is a problem --

Just received an email from my husband's PC with a link to www-dot-malgibiparkediyorum-dot-com-slash-wp-content -slash-themes-

(I doubt he sent the email because it was sent to both our family members and his hobbyist friends.)

Thought I had seen a thread of something similar in this forum but, of course, can't locate it now.

- HP desktop

- IE 9

- MSE automatically updates; says "fully protected"

- his email account is with hotmail (I can have him change the password when he comes home.)

- Malwarebytes is up-to-date and running full scan now

- Superantispywear is up-to-date; plan to run that next

Any insights? Or further suggestions as to what to do?

I had 4 people now trying to remove that blank email and these other people tried everything and it still remains. Other suggestions please I have
a Toshiba Satellite C655 IE 7
my mail is thru our local telephone company HELP!

Well, I'm sorry to have been part of the problem. Yes, Karyn, it erased my email address book and hubby's too. I feel kinda leery of opening any emails now. I have received several from Mariam recently with no subject that I deleted, and another that was suspicious, saying someone "needed some advice"- too close to someone "needing your help"!!! I let everyone know that I could by posting on FB but not everyone is on Facebook. Good luck getting back on track, whomever was hacked. My aunt was even hacked from me, and she is 77- what a PITA for her!! ~Brenda B

Contact your email server and let them know of suspicious activity. They will look to see how much email is going out of your account (and have automatic checks). I believe they can halt your account from sending until you figure out what you want to do. Have you scanned your system for malware? If they got that password it's likely they got other accounts. I'd go to a known clean computer or smartphone and change all passwords. I'd also get new credit cards issued. Bleeping Computer will do an in-depth, multi-layered check of your system to see if malware is the problem or you could just back up and reformat to make sure anything hiding is cleaned off (some can hide from AV software). Then change all passwords again.

A related issue is why all these Russian hacks occuring seemingly to benefit Trump and damage Hillary/Dems. ... and what connections to Trump's Russian investors and his debts to them - its no secret that as loans become less available here (due to the multiple bankruptcies) hes had to look elsewhere for them. See ABC investigative report of a couple weeks ago - unfortunately overshadowed by all the other stuff. Unfortunately sex sells and gets peoples interest - questionable financial dealings not so much. When actually.... foreign elements meddling in our election - thats a very serious matter

I am seeing at various forums a wave of concerns being shared regarding e-mails. This includes what appears to be the notorious addressbook hijacking once again.

We must all be on our toes, and never open unsolicited e-mails.

Another question: probably should tell the other recipients the same thing, right?

What if they already clicked the link in the email?

No I don't think you need to worry about the other recipients just yet, unless there mail starts sending out spam and I doubt that will occur.

Sorry I disagree with Z as to notifying others on the header that you know. This virus replicates expotentialy through the addressbooks and will continue to do so until it times out or is removed. If a user is not aware of the possibility of his/her system infection then how will they be aware of its existence. Just this morning I have been approached by two co-workers who became infected over the weekend.

I'll need to read a bit on the E-Mail infection, I'm stuck on the thought the user needs to double click an E-Mail attachment to execute the infection.
