Marvel 48" Side-by-Side Built-In Refrigerator
Comments (32)On my end, I'm still happy with the purchase (especially in light of the cost savings), but I have experienced a few issues. 1. The seal (at the base of the freezer where ice tends to build up) has cracked slightly, so I have experienced a minor drip as well. But that is nothing that a little replacement putty can't fix. 2. The hinge on the refrigerator makes a click sound once you get past a certain point. It hasn't bothered me enough to call Marvel though. 3. I guess the last thing is the noise. The refrigerator was pretty quite the first several months... certainly quieter than the posts on Houzz make it out to be. But in the past few months it has started to get a little bit louder. It's not loud enough to be a nuisance when you're having a conversation in the kitchen, but it's a bit louder than it was out of the box. At the price I paid, I would also buy again. But if price were no object, I would probably go for one of the luxury brand names....See MoreLarger side by side refrigerator question
Comments (2)When we redid our kitchen back in 2006, we felt the same as you do, as far as the size of SXS fridges prior to 2006 or so. We had a GE SxS and alto it was one of the biggest during its day, ( In 2006, I "actually designed" the kitchen "around the Fridge". At first We were gonna go with a 42" but then I saw the 48" fridges, So I said, I'm gonna find that extra 6" we need for the 48", and I did. One of the best decisions we ever made! We've had our Jenn-air 48" since 2006, other than replacing the ice maker after about 5 years, (was really easy to do and about $135), The fridge has been completely trouble free, it hasn't even blown a light bulb yet! We love the space, both the fridge section and the freezer section. We're getting older and being able to put the stuff we use most and a convenient height for us , really helps! (both inside the fridge and freezer). We are just as apt to get into the freezer as the fridge and we're just to old to perform "Squatters Rights" trying to retrieve stuff from a low freezer. We did buy the Jenn-air before Maytag which was bought by Whirlpool. It seems to have more features than the newer Jenn- Air fridges that we see folks here in GW talk about. We have crank up/down shelves in both the fridge and freezer sections; We have 3 different temp zones in the fridge compartment, (all digitally controlled). It's possible some of the folks were looking at less than top of the line Jenn-air fridges~~~so I would try to see one in person. Anyway we love our SXS 48" fridge and have since 2006! Comments (7)My new and wider clearance is 11-1/2 inches and that is after turning the studs behind that wall to pick up a little space, replacing a standard freestanding fridge with a built-in and keeping the same footprint on the island, but probably easing it back a bit withing the toekick space. I don't know if I had 4" before the remodel and it hadn't been a big issue for us. Folks could wait a few seconds, someone can ease the door back or the person can go around the island. You really shouldn't be sitting with your fridge door open that much. We didn't open the aisle for people passing when the fridge door was open. We wanted the space larger to allow more clearance before the exterior door hit the cabinets behind it and wanted a generally wider aisle there since that is a side door under a covered parking area and the most used entrance into our house. Had nothing to do with walking past an open fridge -- something we still don't do much even with that being near the most used entrance. I would set your fridge up for the best use of your kitchen in terms of eating and cooking. If that is going to require you to be walking back and forth past an open fridge, I would rethink the layout, not the fridge choice....See Morebuilt in or integrated refrigeration- french door, side/side or column
Comments (7)I just added on a kitchen (not quite finished) and since i wanted a Thermador 36" dual fuel range, I looked at their fridges. Consumer Reports gave their French door a rating that I liked for pro-style. I bought the 36" French door. I also got in on their "buy 2, get one free" and my Thermador dishwasher was free, but I paid $200 more to get their top dishwasher. My hood was somehow part of this and the blower and parts were free, too. A word about Thermador -- the compressors are on the bottom, so the fridge is taller than one with the compressors at the top. I prefer it this way since I can reach the top shelf. I housesat for three months this summer for someone with a huge SubZero and the compressor at the top always looked like it was a dust-catcher. I have panels, they didn't. In this photo, grouting isn't done; range hood isn't up; frame piece above the Thermador fridge needs to be installed, so you won't see that gap....See Morenyrgirl35
