OK, I've been watching the news and there have been violent tornados with dozens dead. Raleigh, N.C. was hit hard.

Teresa, are you OK? David? Beverly? Glenda? Anyone else in that area?

I'm hoping everyone has escaped uninjured and unscathed.

Thanks for thinking of us, Annie! My immediate area had the storm system sweep through Saturday morning into the afternoon with high winds, heavy rain, and possibly some hail. We were under a tornado warning for 2-3 hours. That's when I do my "scanning the skies" routine anxiously peering out the windows watching the sky and the trees.

We haven't had a tornado onslaught like that since 1987, the news reported today. Shaw University in Raleigh was heavily damaged and has closed the school year early. No final exams, the students will be graded on the work they have completed through the year to this point. Sanford, south and east of me, had tornados touch down and lots of damage. I haven't seen much tree damage in my routine driving around town. My mom couldn't believe that she napped through the whole thing!

Update: I just found out that we had 4-inches of water in the ground floor of our Belvedere here at work, but that has been cleared out over the weekend. I'm told that water is pouring out of the dishwasher in "my" catering kitchen - they're not sure why.

Tushka, little town we drive through every time we had to Tahlequah, OK was hit pretty bad by a tornado. Two elderly sisters were killed, and a school was badly damaged. It saddens me to see this little town hurt so badly.

Teresa, I hope your dishwasher is okay. That's pretty odd. this weather is crazy!

Welcome to the wonderful world of no-spray roses in high humidity and heat of The South. I garden in eastern NC in these unfavorible conditions. Here are my favorites: Barrone Henriette de Snoy, lt pink tea Mrs. B. R. Cant, pink blend tea Prairie Sunrise, apricot Buck rose Quietness, lt pink Buck rose Honeysweet, orange pink Buck rose Chrysler Imperial, red hybrid tea Naga Belle, pink hybrid tea from India New this year: Mme. Berkeley, tea, small apricot blooms Krishna's Peach, tea from India, puny w/pale flowers Clementina Carboneri, orange pink tea, lovely Buxom Beauty, deep pink hybrid tea, large blooms don't last Milestone, or/red hybrid tea/tends to BS Perhaps these will improve with age. Do not like General Galleni's small odd shaped blooms nor Mrs. Dudley Cross which does not bloom much. Think she prefers less humidity. Am putting in more Buck roses next year and the red climber, Dublin Bay. I order "own root" roses from Roses Unlimited in Laurens, S.C. Roses are in one gallon pots. They are always large and healthy and can be planted directly in the garden without coddling. Have never had a complaint with them. Pat and Bill are very reliable and stand behind their roses.

Mimidi I am glad that you are ok and that the rest of our little group will be able to check back in in time and let us know that they are ok as well. Believe it or not there are several agencies that are active on the GC to help in the rescue of wildlife as well as domestic animals. At least the dolphins at the marina in Gulfport were moved to a safe place and they are doing well (holiday Inn swimming pool). I also am concerned about our little feathered friends. I am having a hard time tearing myself away from the tv. I switch back and forth between the stations to get the latest updates. Like most of you I am appalled at the looting of luxury items and guns that is taking place. Now they say that those arrested will be taken to Ft. Polk in Leesville, La. My thought is save those barracks for those who deserve food and shelter and save the government some money and shoot the looters on the spot where they stand. I have lost all sense of reason when it comes to these scumbags. Penny

I work with an NRCS agent, and hes a great guy, you have to remeber the agents we see in the office are not politicians, they are , excuse the phrase flunkies, . My agent Dan went to work with the NRCS back in the 90s, he wanted to work in wildlife and conservation, and he did for the first few years, and the office staff supported a agent in charge of ag. Budget cuts and the ag agent was given early retirement and no replacement was hired, they told Dan he would have to fill both the conservation job and the ag job, but Dan freely admits he knows little about ag, but that does not matter. Dan does his best, hes helping me put in better rotational grazing infrastructure, piped water, gravel pads, and good fencing, hes got 75 percent of my cost shared by the govt, plus a incentive payment for keeping the cows out of the woods. But as hes worked with me , he keeps telling me to tell him what I need cause he isnt a farmer. Its the politicians who are at fault, they cut budgets everywhere except in thier own pockets, my dad retired from the army, and growing up Id see politicats come in limos, thousand dollar suits, and five hundred dollar haircuts, theyd smile and shake my dads hand and say how much they appreciated him. But meanwhile while dad was serving, my mom had to apply for foodstamps to feed us. These politicians are already wealthy when they get into office, then taxpayers pay them hundreds of thousands of dollars a year plus transportation, clothing and other perks. They say we need to control spending, unless it means it affescts them. Originaly in the foundings of this country congress was not paid, it was made up from the wealthier citizens and they paid thier own transportation and was not paid for thier time. Now the wages for congress is an astronomical figure, all together I mean. Im not talking any brand of politics here, whichever way one leans Im sure everyone agrees that the politicians are greedy and self serving. And any bill they right they are going to stick a carrot out there wehter or not it makes sense just to try to appease the masses. One thing I learned growing up and watching dad in the service, is to try to legaly get whatever the govt offers, as an American citizen we dont seem entitled to much, so get what you can. josh

I retured from running errands to discover Dr. Forbes had raised the TorCon Index for two locations in our state. For North Central Oklahoma through South Central Kansas: TorCon raised from 8 to 9. For comparison's sake, the only other '9's I personally remember (and there may be some I don't remember) were for Tuscaloosa last month, and for Yazoo, MS, last year. Both had major tornadoes. For South Central Oklahoma: Torcon raised from 6 to 7. For comparison's sake, I believe Joplin had a 6 on Sunday. For North East Oklahoma: raised from a 6 to a 7 For South East Oklahoma: assigned a 6 TorCon index numbes for other areas are available at the link below. Now, a couple of other tidbits: DS says the OU Sooner Facebook page is providing weather updates today. That's another great source for everyone. DS just drove up from Dallas. On I-35 with him he saw quite a few storm chasers. There were some vehicles he suspected were chasers but couldn't be sure, and others he knew from their appearance absolutely were storm chasers. So, if y'all are near any major highways, keep your eyes peeled because we don't know where they will stop and spend the day. If you see them hanging around your area, that's a clue! Please take today's severe weather threat as seriously as you possibly can. With large, strong, long-track tornadoes in the forecast, remember the safest place by far is in a below-ground tornado shelter or in a safe room. Above all else, don't wait until it is 'too late' to seek shelter. Watch your local media, the NWS webpage, radar, etc. for updates. Expect storms to start firing up at mid-afternoon. Be aware. Stay informed. Stay safe. I am not trying to scare anybody. I just want everyone to be aware, prepared and safe. Tomorrow or late tonight when we have a 'storm check-in thread' set up on this forum, we want for each and every member of this forum to be able to check in and say "We're safe. We made it." Later today, I'll link our back up radar. Remember too you can see radar at the NWS webpages and at the OK Mesonet webpage. Most of them have phone Apps for smart phones too. The best radar is the one closest to you, I believe, but if that one gets knocked out of service, always have a back-up plan for the radar you'll consult. Sally, I saw that little town on the news, I first thought it said "Tulsa" and my first thought was DAvid (lakeguy).

I'm hoping he'll check in, or I'm going to have to go find him. Beverly too.

It breaks my heart as I see more of the reports of lost lives, livelihoods, and homesteads.

Prayers for strength for those who have suffered losses.

What is up with this crazy weather?

We got 3 inches of snow overnight. Guess I won't complain too much....

Just looking at the pictures of the devastation on the news breaks my heart. Stay safe, everyone, I don't think it's over yet.

Sorry I'm late checking in y'all....I've been on the road all week. Thanks for checking on everyone Annie.

Me and my group are all okay from last weeks storms. Lots of rain, hail, funnel clouds, and tornadoes all around us. Glad to hear everyone is okay. I feel so sad for those who have lost their homes and or family members.

Sally, Iv'e been driving through that little town for years on my way to Dallas or Texas in general. They really took a hard and direct hit.

Linda, I read and heard about the snow up North too. Crazy for sure!

We are under the gun again tonight and most of the weekend according the weather guys. We have had golfball to baseball sized hail and several tornadoes reported. Typical for our part of the country. After the winter we had all over the country I'm thinking it's going be a wild ride for a lot of us.

David, we had planned on coming up to Tahlequah this weekend. We were all packed and ready to head out Saturday night. Yesterday afternoon, after checking on Weather.com, I called DH and said, "Let's not go." He said he was hoping I'd say that. The next time we head up there the grass is going to be soooooo tall.

I just hope everyone stays safe over this stormy weekend up there.

I'm glad everyone is safe so far, has anyone heard from Glenda? I know she doesn't post here often and I'm not sure exactly where in AL she is, but it got stormy, that's for sure.

And Weed/Wendy, is she still in St. Louis?

Sally, hope your place is on high ground and not close to any creeks or the Illinois. Tahlequah had 10 inches plus of rain over the weekend. The river is suppose to crest 11 -12 feet over flood stage tonight or tomorrow. Stillwell had water running through town everywhere today not to mention many roads closed in the general area. Rain totals in the east side of the state range from 4 - 13 inches. It hailed here at my place three times yesterday. For the most part it was pea to quarter sized for me. I got a littler nervous when I saw a few golf ball sized ones bouncing in the yard.

Annie, I was thinking about Weed too. St. Louis took a good hit Friday night. Glad to hear there were no major injuries from the tornado at the airport. I know there are several levees SW of that area that are on the brink of breaking. The Popular Bluff area is really under the gun with that challenge today.

I think Glenda is in Birmingham??? Hope she checks in too.

Glad to have the rain even though the storms have caused some major damage and loss of life. Too bad they didn't get some in West OK and TX were they are suffering from a major drought. The winter wheat crop isn't going to be all that good this year.

Hope everyone is safe and sound. May is typically the month for the most tornados. April sure has set some records so far and I know those to the East of me have a couple of wild days ahead of them.
