download Irfanview, where?

I would like to give this program a try, can someone provide me with a safe link to download from? Thanks to anyone.

I'd recommend this download from the well-respected Filehippo. Avoid Cnet .

sorry Lynn we were posting at the same time and I did not see your question about open it online, I did get that add on to check it out but have not found it helpful for me, I also do not like to open anything with out scanning it so I am in the habit of downloading it to my pc then scanning with a right click using AV and malwarebytes. the advantage to open it online is if someone is using a pc that does not have any type of office programs on it or photo programs, with open it online you can use the options in it to for example open a document file using google apps there by not needing office or open office to view it. with pictures you can select to use their option of picnik to open the picture and do any editing you may need to do. So in those situations it can be very helpful. I have office programs on all of my computers so really don't need it for that and I have the picnik addon already in firefox and use it often so I have that base covered also. To find the options for that add on when you click on the tools list it is listed right there and if you put your cursor on it the options button is shown.

Where did you go to get that program? I Googled Irfanview400 thinking it might be a newer version but I only seemed to bring up warez and cracks sites so I moved away in a hurry. Visit the link below and get the latest version and also grab the plug ins too. Delete what you have first I would suggest. I am so confused! Here's what I just did, I went to a webpage and clicked on "file" and "save page as" and had it go to my desktop. It also went to a place where my downloads are kept. The top of that page says "downloads" and the bottom says All files downloaded to "download." That page is what I'm trying to figure out.....I wish I could copy and paste it into this message but no luck....anyway When I click to open the file on the above mentioned screen/page this is what I see: file://c:documents and settings\ginny\desktop-videoplay.htm. AND what I see when I click open is this type of stuff................... Hi jenn, I use Irfanview all the time for editing photos, and I do love it. I rarely ever use paint even though it comes with Windows... I am thinking of downloading Picassa as well because it does organize photos. I just got another stick of RAM (now I have 1 gig) so I think maybe I will have both on my 'puter.....(plus 3 versions of PSP, Animation Shop and Photoshop Elements....LOL... I am going to get another stick of memory this summer too!) I know I am not answering your question, but I did not want your post to go unnoticed!

When you want to download a program like this, that's what Google is for. If you type "Irfanview" into the search box, the first hit that comes up is Irfanview's home page, and the next download hits are for cnet, tucows, and filehippo which are all reliable sites. Google puts the most active hits at the top of the search page, so the likelihood that you will see some shady site showing up at the top of a search for any popular software is minuscule.

Azinoh, the link you provided is Irfanview, but they will send you to Cnet. I tried a couple of times to get it there and it was always sent to cnet.

There's no reason to fear CNET, it's a big for-real company owned by CBS.

Knowing that they're prone to bundle and include choices in their downloads (that their advertisers pay for) that you may not want, you just need to pay attention to where and what you click or agree to.

I wasn't in a hurry to get the next version (the changes usually have a minimal impact on my usage of the program), but since there seems to be so MUCH concern about CNET, I did get the file from CNET and did the install. After answering the standard questions about where and how to install, I was offered an install of Google Chrome. Since I did not want it, I had to UNCHECK the box. The install then continued with no problem. If you already have Google Chrome, you may or may not see this step...I don't know. If you already have Google Chrome and fail to UNCHECK the box, it could potentially wipe out your current install leaving you with no bookmarks and all the settings returned to the defaults. Again...I don't know and I'm not going to find out.

Anyone still having a cow about using CNET can use the link on the Irfanview page to OTHER DOWNLOAD SITES. I would expect the experience at these other sites would be exactly the same but I could be wrong so if you use them, you're on your own. I won't be using them and will have no comment on them.

If you decide to install the additional plugins, you MUST close Irfanview first. The install will stop until you close Irfanview.

Additionally, I went to the CNET site using Firefox with NoScript. This cuts down on the funny business that a lot of malicious sites throw at users with vulnerable browsers, particularly Internet Explorer. So if you go there with IE, I don't know what your experience will be. I can only tell you what my experience was.

That was it...no strain no pain.

I'm not a fan of CNet, but will use it if I have to. None of my systems have ever blown up as a result. As to the site itself, different strokes for different folks. I leave all the cows out on the range.

I do appreciate the mentality of MajorGeeks as they at times will pre-advise a specific download contains ancillary content.

Most of us here can use cnet without a problem because we know what to watch for, some do not. My Sis does not know much about the workings of a PC she mainly uses it for a word processor. When it stopped working she took it to someone to fix it and he cleaned off the junk like you get at cnet and it was fine.
