Certainteed Mahogany Stained Cement Fiber Siding.

Hello,

We are building a new home in Missouri. I just ordered my siding. I ordered the Certainteed Mahogany Prestained Cement Fiber Siding that looks like real cedar siding. I still have not found a picture with this color. Does anyone have any pictures with this color? Would love to see them if you do. Thanks!

Try the link below...I bookmarked this some time back for inspiration photos (inside and out). It was posted by someone on one of these forums. I am fairly sure that I remember the poster saying that it was mahogany Certainteed siding.

That's our house. It is indeed Certainteed Mahogany Fiber Cement Siding. We considered their Redwood color as well but found that it looked too carrot-colored, not as natural as the mahogany. See the link below for a full set of photos of the house.

glnnj - Certainteed's stained fiber-cement products come in 6 shades: mahogany, cedar, redwood, maple, slate (which is the silver grey of deeply weathered wood) and emerald (which is a deep green). Go to the page I linked to in my post above and pick any of of the stain-finished products by clicking on its name (in blue). This will lead you to a new page with a small picture of that product on the right hand side. The small picture will have will have six tiny "color squares" beside it. Click on a square and the small picture will change to that color. Click on "view larger image" to see it in a larger size. Bear in mind that the colors you see on a computer are determined by the settings on your computer so the best you can get is a general idea of the colors. You'll want to see sample in real life to get a better idea of how the colors look. That said however, I found that Certainteed was extremely helpful. I could not find a distributor in my area and contacted Certainteed directly. I was wanting their pre-painted product and they sent me a sample board with sample of every color at no charge. Also, even tho there was no distributor in my local area, Certainteed indicated they could and would deliver any product I wanted to me. They don't restrict certain products/colors to certain areas of the country. Nichiha also comes in six standard stain colors and 2 special order stain colors. Standard colors are mahogany, maple, macadamia, charcoal gray, caramel, and emerald wheat. Special Order colors are redwood and weathered grey. Below is a link to the Nichiha site. Beware of MaxiTile and their product. I live in the Midwest and have been through a nightmare with this company and its product. First of all, the issue I had with the product was that it shrank. Yes thatÂs right, almost 3/16 at every seam. It was installed by a Maxi Tile recommended installer as well. Then when I called the manufacture I was given the run around for nearly a year and a half. One rep came out, inspected the siding, agreed to replace the inferior product and reimburse the labor cost, but soon left the company. Then it took nearly a year to get someone to tell me the status of my claim. Once I was able to get a hold of the regional business development manager I was told that my settlement would be for half the cost of the labor and no product. When I asked how they arrived at that settlement I was told take it or leave it. So after their offer I am out $5500.00. By the way, I replaced their product with Hardi Board.

Also looking to order fiber cement siding planks. Seems like everyone goes with either CertainTeed or Hardie planks. Is Cerber a reputable brand (it seems they're manufactured by Certainteed per quote above: "Cerber currently uses Certainteed Fibre Cement board for its rustic series. Previously we had used Maxitile, but we had feedback from customers indicating less brand awareness and confidence in Maxitile and a preference for Certainteed.") My GC is letting us order as much of the material as we want ourselves vs. him ordering for us to price compare (he doesn't have time to do all that quoting back and forth), but I've not bought anything online directly and not from Build Direct. I've only made purchases from local distributors, HD/Lowe's and other local building suppliers. Is it safe to buy from Build Direct? I'm in northern CA and to cover 3000 sq ft (that's how large the house is, not the needed siding) one-story home, I've calculated that it'll take about 2340 sq ft + 10% Thank you in advance for any advice!

I wanted to go with Allura for their stain colours. Hardi only has solid colours, but I wanted a wood look. It might be just my area, but nobody carries it. There's a local distributor, and retailers will get it. But the minimum quantities are ridiculous. And the prices are higher than custom painted Hardi. :( Also, whenever I've mentioned Certainteed here, I've learned that there are people who have a serious hate on for it. They tell you to google it and you'll learn that there have been class action law suits. But, according to google, there have also been class action law suits against Hardi. Good luck with your search.

dcaslin...........I really like the look of your house with the Certainteed siding. I was wondering if you have had any trouble with it?

My wife and I are taking a serious look at this product but would like some feedback from people who have used it.

We've been in the house a year and had zero trouble with it. The one example school we saw had one problem, not that I can blame Certainteed. They used heavy duty tape to attach a movie screen to their siding and the tape ending up marring the finish when they pulled it off several days later. Other than that, I've never even heard of people having problems with fiber cement that was properly installed. From research on this site I'd suggest you use a builder/contractor that has fiber cement experience, to make sure they install it right, and you'll be fine.

We did have some trouble with our Azek trim. The dark paint job on it caused it to heat up a lot in the sun and expand and pop-out. Our builder was really cool about it and had people out to fix any problem areas. An Azek rep came out and suggested they use screws rather than nails to attach the trim and so far that's worked great.

Not too be too much of a pain but would you happen to have any pictures of your house that you could attach? My wife is a very visual person and would love to see some houses that have used this product.

How is the siding holding up now that its been a few years? We are buying the same siding in that color for our new house. You are the only example I could find so far.

It seems to be holding up just great. We've had some rough icy winters, tons of wind, 100+ degree summers and it looks just great to us. Logically I think it has to have faded some, however I can't tell if it has (I haven't compared pictures or anything though).
