Ice Maker - Yes or No...Opinions Needed!!!
Comments (19)It's true that they shut off when full, but at least my Monogram never got full, since the ice is constantly melting. There might have been an occasional moment when it was full and shut down but in general it ran all the time. I was not compulsive enough, for example, to submerge the thermostat in ice every night before i went to bed. It was not easy to turn off otherwise. The noise of ours, which was by the door to our bedroom, was definitely obtrusive and regbob makes a good point that it should be installed somewhere outside actual living areas. Actually, thinking back, I have vague memories that there was some requirement to clean out muck from the ice maker regularly, so I may have been mistaken about my water quality observation (I replaced ours with a wine cooler a long time ago). To icemaker owners: how do they actually filter the water? Is there a mechanical filter, or is there something about the freezing process that somehow precipitates stuff out? How often do you have to clean it out, and how difficult is it to do? At any rate, I drink tap water at home, so I figure if I can drink the stuff, I can live with it in my ice too. Again, it's all a question of aesthetics. If attractive-looking/tasting ice is a higher priority than energy wastage and noise, then it's a good choice....See MoreFire & Ice question-advice needed
Comments (2)Chris, I think the colors in your granite go with the F&I, but overall your stone is more dramatic and darker than mine. The F&I is a wow backsplash, and if you put it on every wall, I think it may be too much with your stone. I would put it only on the range wall. On the other walls, I would put a larger-scale tile in a complementary quartzite that picks up the lighter color in the F&I-- maybe look at the boading creme from Tile Shop. There are also some great quartzite random brick tiles on the Tile Shop web site for less $ than Fire and Ice, and that would be easier to coordinate with their other offerings. Agree with remodelfla that a wide view photo would help. Here is a link that might be useful: Tile to coordinate with Fire and Ice...See MoreWater to washing machine - I really need advice
Comments (21)1. washer worked perfectly 2, Handy man turned off all water in the house. 3.Handyman changed gaskets on the outside spigot 4. Turned water back on to the whole house 5. Went to wash clothes and the hot water worked for awhile (5-10 minutes) the just stops. 6. Cold water rarely would fill at all. 7. Tried the washer many times but no luck 8. Handy man got the flood hoses and put on machine 9. Tried more times to wash clothes but water would fill for a few minutes and stop. The hot water would almost always come on for awhile. The only way the cold water would come on is if it was turned on VERY slowly and sometimes not even then. 10. Checked water at spigot - water comes out fine. Checked water from spigot to unattached washing machine end. Water came out perfectly. 11. Today, replaced flood hoses and put on the Eastman hose. Every single thing concerning water remains the same. 12. I have never, in the past, turned water on and off when doing laundry. It think that covers it. We did all of the GE testing ideas from Sammy above, All results are listed above....See MoreNeed some advice on which Washing machine to get. Not a clue.
Comments (7)Mold problem. I don;t think anyone has mentioned wash temps. playing a role in schmutz buildup in your washer outer tub. A constant use of cold water only washes with only liquid detergents and liquid fabric softener WILL cause a smelly moldy build up in the outer tub. Your front loader does not use much water so using hot and warm will not add much to your energy bills. Most modern fabrics can tolerate hotter temps. than the scaredy cat wash in cold labels imply. If a retailer is selling non pre-shrunk all cotton clothing without saying so then that is their problem, not ours. As others mentioned above first try a hot wash with bleach and then a couple citric acid hot cycles and see if that eliminates the problem, if your machine has a special cleaning cycle even better. If after this you still have to replace consider both the above Maytag as well as a Fisher Paykel wash plate top loader which unlike some washplate machines does have effective cleaning as well as Consumer Reports recommendation of frontload LG-get one with a built-in heater- which they say is very reliable for the time period they say is the cost-effective life of a modern washer, which of course is much shorter than your grandmother's 30 year old Maytag toploader. I don't know if a Miele meets your $1500 limit but they have special wool and delicate cycles and are considered by most of their owners to be the ultimate, should take everything except your king comforter. Good luck and let us know if cleaning cycles solve the smell issue....See Morepecanpie
