Latest MS Update KB932823

I checked this out because I wanted to make sure it wasn't XP3 but the MS website says its a 'fix' for a keyboard problem? Didn't understand what they were describing.

Is this something we should download?

These are the symptoms the update deals with, if you do not have the symptoms skip the update:

"You may be unable to use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to download files on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP. For example, after you click Save in the File Download dialog box, the file is not downloaded".

Thanks, so I guess I should download it as I have XP. I only use IE7 for updates.

ABCGIRL It's okay. I was just worried that I hadnt heard from you. I have an update but its not much of one! According to usps.com the package has not been received. Here is what the website says: You entered 0103 8555 7494 0595 0839 The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on May 12, 2005 to expect your package for mailing. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. Not sure why it is taking this long to get the package to abitodd. If she doesnt get it soon I guess I will mail the original robin out to her. Not sure what else to do. Sheena

I get the paid version of Windows Secrets and I would guess you are talking about the article on Windows Genuine Advantage? They should be called on the carpet for making us continue to go through that over and over it is ridiculous, make us do it once and be done with it. I did not see any mention of this last patch Tuesdays updates causing any problems, they do mention the patches for IE and their importance. I have only seen on a few forums some very minor issues but none like this 98 thing. I have run this windows 98 issue by a few MS MVP's and no one has seen or hear of it happening and all want to know the outcome so please arkie62 keep us posted on what you do and your outcomes please. I use linux also my fave distro is Mepis (dual boot with Ubuntu) but with any MS OS comes IE and with IE comes the patches so as long as it is MS OS it will have IE and therefore needs the patches. Does not really matter if we use firefox and thunderbird as I also do since IE is part of the OS. I too love linux.

No I do not think you need it it is only for people who are having trouble downloading files using IE7....

I put KB932823 into Google and a plethora of responses appeared including the Microsoft Support link. One or more of them may assist you in making your decision.

when you go to windows update site and choose custom it will then tell you which are critical and which are not and it will show sp3 as a separate update, you can select only the critical ones you need to install and also uncheck ones like sp3 that you do not want to install at that time. If it shows as a critical update then you probably want to install it.

I downloaded both. One was an update for Windows Defender and the other the IE7 fix. I never use IE but figured if I did, I might as well put it in. I'm avoiding XP3 until they fix it.

Rather than going directly to the update site which is frowned upon by MS, wouldn't it be easier to just use the on-board update utility and then when SP3 appears just hide it? Then future uses of the utility would not offer/show SP3, but rather only the current available updates.
