Anyone know of a good cast iron soaker tub for one?

Hi everyone. I'm stumped with tub choices. I was all set and ready to get the Kohler Tea-for-two 5.5 cast iron tub until I actually sat in one of them. They're great for two people but I'm going to be the only one using the tub and I like to lean back a little more than I can with the Tea-for-two (I'd like to be able to touch my feet to the other end of the tub too). But I'm having such a hard time finding a 5.5 tub with a decent water depth that's built for one. Does anyone have any suggestions for tubs that fit the bill? Here's what I'm looking for:

Drop-in tub

5.5 long

32 - 36" wide

Cast iron

Good soaking depth (at least 16" deep)

Comfortable incline

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same issue. I first selected the Tea for Two, and then switched to the Kohler Ironworks K-711, which is 36" wide, 66 inches long. The total height is 19 1/4 inches - not sure what the soaking depth is but I do love this tub. It's beautiful and comfortable. I got mine as a drop in, but I believe you can also get it with a stand. Also, what makes it really comfortable is that I purchased Kohler's footrest (which I saw in a showroom), which is just this white oval piece (heavy enough not to float up) that you drop in the end of the tub, and in effect makes the tub shorter. The footrest part number is 1601.

Thanks for the advice! I looked at the Ironworks tub and thought it wouldn't be deep enough (it's 12 5/8" to the overflow). I did just find the Hampshire claw foot tub by Victoria and Albert (water depth is 15 3/4") and it looks like it could work because you can use it as a drop-in as well, without the feet. Does anyone know if the Englishcast material insulates as well as a cast iron tub? The main reason I was looking at cast iron was because I wanted the water to stay hot and the weight wouldn't be an issue since this bathroom is on concrete slab. Seems from the literature that Englishcast is supposed to insulate quite well. Anyone have one of their tubs? They're so pretty I'm now considering changing the bathroom design for a free-standing tub since I love the wooden legs you can use instead of the claw feet.

We installed the Mendota a couple of years ago in a bathroom where size was an issue. I knew I wanted cast iron and at first I looked at the Villager but the water level issue concerned me. I was worried about buying the Mendota because none of the local showrooms had one I could try out. We ordered it unseen and untested and the day it was to be installed I made the plumber take it out of the crate so I could lie in it first to make sure it was going to work (his son thought I was nuts). I'm very pleased with it. It's deep enough for me and has a comfortably angled back. It's not a fancy tub but I'm happy with it (and the price was right).

My acrylic Bain Ultra air tub was set in a bed of mud with a piece of think plastic between the mud and tub. This was done for the ease of removing the tub if ever the need arises. It's as solid feeling on the bottom as my husband's Kohler cast iron tub. As for cleaning, that's a different story. You're not supposed to use anything abrasive on acrylic. Believe it or not, Scrubbing Bubbles is considered abrasive :( That's been my go to tub cleaner for years. To clean my acrylic tub RIGHT, I use Gel Gloss. It's a pain (literally!). You spray it on, let it sit, buff it and let it dry and then wipe the residue. When I'm in a pinch for time or physically limited, I will use Scrubbing Bubbles. There are very few non abrasive cleaners out there. One Bain Ultra suggested was Lemon scent Lysol. NOTHING works better than Scrubbing Bubbles!

My designer told me that the ones with the tall overflow allows a deeper soak depth. I‘ve got a shallow maybe 7” of water right now that I can’t wait to be gone! I want the deepest soaking depth that I can get. I don’t care if the overflow is not pretty.

Your bathroom looks great. Does the photo distort how large the space is, or is it that lengthy? It is helpful to compare space that is similar in size to mine, and I know some photos are not totally representative of the real size. my bathroom is pretty small --maybe 5 x 8.

Boy you described my tub to a tee - American Stnadard Americast Stratford bathing pool/soaker tub. I absolutely love it. All the benefits of cast iron at less than half the weight. Has the exact same surface as a cast iron tub, holds heat well, comfy incline.

We are looking for the same thing. Have decided on a Toto 1700. Cast iron, 66x32x18ish. I am hoping to actually find one in a showroom this week.
