AOL and flashpicsfix
I am wondering if anyone else has AOL and might have run into problems with their passwords needing to be reset often in the past few weeks. This has happened to me so today I called AOL to speak to a tech support person. I was disconnected. I then tried Live Help and found that it's no longer available as of May 27, today. (!) I then was directed to a Live Chat person. She said that they're doing an upgrade of some kind that has caused the password problem for some members. But, she said, I should check also to see if I have a trojan by choosing keyword FLASHPICSFIX. I asked her what this would do? She said it would scan my computer for the trojan. I said that if the problem was caused by an upgrade, then why do I have to check for a trojan?...."Just in case". I then asked if I have no trojan, then how will the problem be solved? She answered she will submit a "report" about the problem. Will I be notified? "Unfortunately, no". Reluctantly, I did the keyword thing and within a nanosecond, it said it was miraculously fixed!
I did an internet search for FLASHPICSFIX and found some info about AOL's McAfee being compromised by spammers. I'm guessing that's why she wanted me to do the keyword for it, but it obviously didn't scan anything in the blink of an eye.
What am I to think. I've been an AOL member for 9 years and would consider dropping it except for a few niceties that I like with the service. I know, I know. I probably need to do it but I hear stories about people never being able to completely remove it.
I am just wondering if anyone else has had the problem.
Thanks
Pam
