Side splashes?

I need to replace the top of a 37" vanity and have a chance to pick up one at a great discount except for one thing: it doesn't come w/ any side splashes, and this vanity is smack between two walls, so I have them on my old one and assume I need them for this as well.

Any suggestions other than perhaps tiling the wall...if you're not really 'splashy' could you get away with not having them? It's not like there not some space on the counter top for small water issues. I really don't want to pass on this topper. Thoughts appreciated,

I personally don't think you need side splashes. I have 2 sinks in my Master configured like yours and would not think of using sidesplashes with them as I think they are unnecessary and I don't care for the look. I have a large sink in my guest bath with a beautiful slab of travertine that I don't even have a backsplash, just a good fit with the wall and a good line of clear silicone behind. If it was a kids bathroom, maybe, otherwise unnecessary. Get the slab.

We don't have side splashes on any walls (kitchen or in any of our 3 bathrooms). We used BM Aura Matte finish paint and that's it.

I just updated my bathroom and I was wondering the same thing. I decided to do a small 2" backsplash (behind the sinks). I didn't want it but after worrying about grout from the tile above the BS, I went ahead and did. I'm glad I did and it turned out looking fine IMO. I didn't do the side splashes. It was offered but I just didn't like the look. (I did it in my kitchen years ago after my installer insisted and dislike it now). My old vanity top didn't have the side splashes and I never had any water issues. I think either way looks fine though. I did have my 2" BS filed down, so it's not as thick as the reg. countertop.

We are installing the Ove Lourdes stand alone vanity from Costco which does not come with a side splash. We are tucking it in along the left hand wall so I was concerned about in not having a backsplash, mainly for visual purposes. Our professional designer said that we do not need a side splash visually or practically.

No side splashes needed on either side. The faucet will be far enough from the walls, so it should not be a problem.

You can have one fabricated at a stone place (with Corian, granite, Silestone, etc.) or have it tiled or use laminate (tile and laminate can be DIYable with some level of competency). It doesn't look like you'll be able to find a unit that will drop in directly, but this way you get to (have to?) pick your own sink.

This is reassuring to hear. It's too easy to assume how it was is how it has to be, and I think given a 'low' splash potential in this bath, I"m going to get the top (and not worry about the side splashes) and enjoy it. Thanks so much for your replies.

I also do not think side splashes are necessary. I think even back splashes can be optional, depending on the care and usage of the sink. I did a remodel about a year and a half ago in our main / guest bathroom that gets daily usage for washing hands. I went without a back splash for some time (a few months) and have no intention of ever installing a side splash. I did another bathroom remodel a few months ago with a pedestal sink and have no back splash. It also gets daily use for washing hands. At this point, I have no intention of adding a back splash, though I've considered it. I think you will be just fine as long as you're not flooding the countertop and should jump on this opportunity.
