I'd buy the chrome.

At our old place, we redid a master bath in early 2004 and chose Brushed Nickel for everything. Four months later, my mother also redid her bath with almost all the same colors, tiles, and cabinets we chose (copycat!). However, she went with Chrome. It looked fantastic and she saved at least a $300-$500 on materials by choosing the less expensive finish.

Also, I don't feel that chrome is dated. It's consistently used in many settings, so I think it stands the test of time. It's the neuatral of the bath hardware world.

Ask me about polished brass, and you'll get a different answer...LOL.

Chrome is classic.

In my recently renovated master bath, I went with all chrome fixtures, including lights.

They are all of a classic style, and quite heavy, and very beautiful.

Polished brass/oiled bronze and some of the other finishes will get dated but chrome seems to consistently stay a classic look.

Oh, but one last question if you don't mind, is Chrome and Polished Chrome the same thing? The faucet and accessories are the Grohe "Starlight Chrome" (I am assuming that is regular shiny chrome) and the light fixture is Polished Chrome - same thing correct - they will look OK together, right

I am not familiar with Grohe's Starlight Chrome finish, but perhaps you could contact a customer service rep online and ask them?

I just finished ordering all my fixtures for our basement BR online- from four different sources and I was a wee bit nervous until they all arrived- and they look fabulous (IMHO)- all polished chrome and you'd never know they came from all over the world (literally) and several different manufacturers. I think chrome is one of the very few finishes that you can be that lucky with!

I totally know what you were thinking- worrying about the chrome being dated, but I don't think it ever will be- the style you choose...now that can be an issue... :>)

I am buying chrome. It sparks up a bathroom and gives it a gleaming look. I love to keep it polished. I am also getting a chrome light fixture. Just the same old stage dressing table style. The backing is so highly polished, it looks like a mirror. I don't want to do any electrical work. I cut corners where I can.
I didn't plan on doing this so my heart isn't in it. You know how that goes. Leak, walls torn out and can't match the tile. Have to start thinking about something you have no time for.

Chrome is back!!
I used it in a bathroom and I love it. I dont think it was ever our, just not 'hot'. Brushed anything was in but in a bathroom with polished marble, granite etc, chrome looks terrific.

As long as polished brass does not come back (pray)...

Absolutely, I think for that particular fixture it probably even looks best in chrome.

You're correct, chrome almost has a stigma for some unknown reason. I just redid 2 baths and wanted to use chrome but was hesitant in case it would affect resale. I like the chrome. It's shiny and pretty. I think of it as the "jewelry" for my bathroom.

Another vote for Chrome. Before our reno we had chrome everything but brushed steel vanity lighting - did not go together well. Our new lamp will be chrome, too. In the kids bathroom we replaced the lamp with chrome, also. The 1.5 other bathrooms do have brushed steel or nickel and we like that, too, but I think within a single bathroom everything should go together.

Super-Cheap fixtures in Chrome of a style made 30 years ago DO look cheap. But so do super-cheap fixtures in polished brass or antique brass. (And I'm betting that's what you had in your apartment, right?)

But the nice new fixtures in Chrome look wonderful! I used Chrome in my last two bath redos, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

We just bought Hansgrohe chrome fixtures for our bath, the Brizo "Loki" faucet in chrome and I just got my Candice Olson "Cluny" sconces today......chrome with mirror and shades. All beautiful!!! I agree, chrome used to look cheap.
