Should I seal bath shower faucet handle cover plate?
Comments (2)when i expressed this same concern to our plumber, he showed me that there is a sortof 'seal' on the inside of our plate to help water from entering into wall...designed to help prevent water from getting back behind it, but, also notched on bottom to allow the water that is on periphery of the plate to drain out....my understanding at least....See MoreSingle or double handle faucet?
Comments (14)We chose a two-handled faucet for the kitchen for two reasons. 1) We like the traditional styling. 2) Every single one-handled faucet I've ever used for any length of time has eventually leaked around the handle. I imagine higher quality faucets than the ones I've lived with are out there, but it's hard to overcome the feeling of a lifetime of bad experience. I think the key to making two handles work is not having your water heater set so high that the hot water is scalding. Our hot water by itself is not too hot for washing dishes. If I want warm water on my hands, I use just the hot, no problem, no mixing required. If I'm doing extensive washing of the kids' hands, sometimes I have to add a bit of cold in after several seconds, but I don't find it to be any big deal. A shower mixer is indeed a different kettle of fish. There one wants a very precise, very consistent, moderate temperature over a longish period, and a single handle works very well for that....See MoreI need advice on a good, single handle faucet.
Comments (3)I learn something every day. Thanks, homebound. I went to a big decorator place and they confirmed that all kitchen faucets swivel-even the ones less than $300. :) I think I've found one that fits all my criteria - a Moen Torrance. It doesn't swivel out of the box, but a Moen rep told me on the phone it would once installed. I hope it works and lasts well....See MoreSingle handle faucet: "Cold water is overriding the hot water"????
Comments (21)OK, different story after I actually met with the maintenance guy and performed some tests. Here are the facts: 1. Single-level handle for tub/shower with pressure-balanced valve. 2. Tenant does not experience water temperature fluctuations, but supposedly tenants in unit below complain. 3. No water heater in unit, but circulating hot water in building (big boiler). 4. It takes a long time before water actually turns hot when the hot is turned on, both on bathroom sink and tub/shower. Not sure if that's related. 5. So here are the tests: a. Turn hot water on at tub/shower until it's piping hot; turn off; turn HOT on again --- water comes out very cold. b. More interestingly: Turn tab/shower faucet on hot; turn off; then Turn hot water on bathroom SINK faucet --- this is a two handle faucet, so only use hot water handle; water comes out hot, then slowly turns cold; then hot again. c. Now shut off tub/shower valves, so no water gets into the faucet. Do the same thing with the sink faucet as before, i.. e turn on hot; now water will not turn colder but stay hot. So, my question is now: Did the previous plumber incorrectly install the faucet after he took it apart when he fixed a leak, or is the pressure-balancing valve in the tub/shower faucet busted? Either way, I just called a plumber....See Morecat_mom
