Central Vac, Surround Sound, or Whirlpool Tub?
Comments (25)I've only been in my house a week, but I gotta say, central vac is the greatest invention of all time. My wife and I have two dogs, and have always used a Dyson...no matter how good the filtration mechanism (and I'm not sure Dyson's are all the great), the machine still needs to exhaust...and the finest dust is recirculated right back into the room...with the central vac, it's WAY more powerful than the Dyson, and it exhausts to the outside...NO smell, VERY quiet, powerful, and no bag or canister to unload every use... As for Surround Sound, I've got it; it's nice (and can be impressive), but I don't feel like I have a better or more functional house because of it... Whirlpool tubs are totally overrated and yucky in my opinion. Some people canÂt live without them (my brother and his wife for example), most have them but never use them. If you love to soak or have a medical condition that warrants one, go for it...but if you do, at least get an air tub that self-purges...I've seen black gunk come out of way too many whirlpool tubs over the years......See MoreFan On Top Of Outdoor Central Air Unit Sometimes Stops Working
Comments (15)With thermostat technology available now it is very easy to have full control of what type of heat you are using and when. The stats use an outdoor temp sensor and can be set to run the heat pump in one set of temperatures and the alternate source at other temps and also run one or the other or both depending on the temperature so you can get the best bang for your heating buck. If its above 35 degrees my heat strips are totally locked out unless there is an unlikely defrost needed. If it is below 35 the stat will run the heat pump and stage in strips as needed down to I believe 10 degrees the heat pump is deactivated and it only operates on the heat strips until the temperature comes back up outside. This allows seamless control with no need to get up and make any adjustments other than picking the temperature you want inside the home. The stat can still be manually set to emergency heat or auto mode just like the old systems. If gas prices shoot up you can set the pump to run on down to whatever temp you want say 10 degrees or not even shut off at all. If gas prices drop you can have the heat pump locked out totally or at say 40 degrees. It sounds like it might be worthwhile to check into or start considering upgrading the whole system but until then a fan motor and or capacitor isn't a massive undertaking or expense. BTW at temps above 30 degrees a heat pumps efficiency really ramps up....See MoreWhirlpool whole house water filter at Lowes
Comments (7)I would be less concerned with having a filter if I had well water & more concerned with having one on city water. City water gives you all kinds of things to worry about like chlorine & chloramine (chlorine w/ammonia) both of which cause serious damage to the collagen of your hair & skin, eventually causing permanent damage to those cells ability to regenerate (perform mitosis). This aggravates/exacerbates eczema, psoriasis, hair loss & the list goes on. You might be getting hydrofluorosilicic acid (Fluoride) added to the water by the city which is actually a waste by-product of phosphate fertilizer production & happens to be contaminated with lead, arsenic, chromium, mercury & radioactive nucleotides (documented). To make matters worse the chlorine combines with organic matter in the water to form disinfectant byproducts or DBPs such as trihalomethanes, which are documented hundreds of times more toxic than the disinfectants themselves, linked to cancer birth defects & reproductive harm. Not only that but you absorb 10 times more of all these contaminants in a 15 min shower than you would by drinking it ALL DAY. This is partly due to the fact that many of these chemicals vaporize when heated so you breath them into your lungs, directly into the blood stream across the mucous membrane. That's not even getting into what all that is doing to imbalance the fertility of your soil, killing all beneficial soil organisms & such. So yes, I would definitely be concerned with getting a filtration system for the immediate & foreseeable future. For the long term I would start looking into demanding that our municipalities start updating these outdated systems & implementing technologies to legitimately resolve these serious problems so that it's not left up to informed citizens to pay additional exorbitant out of pocket expenses for clean water, in essence paying to UN-DO what our elected officials used our tax dollars to pay for....See MoreWhirlpool Fridge Ice/Water Tray -Can't Keep Clean
Comments (3)txpepper, Apologies for not responding sooner! Came here this morning and found my post had totally fallen off the radar scope. lol Thank you very much for responding.....and good to know I'm not the only one with this problem! Right about now I Don't care how attractive or unattractive a solution looks....I am just tired of walking by the fridge and seeing that area get darker and darker each time I walk by. I understand your solution about putting a paper towel over the tray and as soon as I get the tray soaked and put back today, that's what I'll do. But I don't quite understand the Zip-Lock bag creating a slide for the water? Do you tape the zip-lock bag to the back of the paddle? If not, how do I make sure the zip-lock doesn't get in the way of the water coming out? OK, do you happen to have a pic of your solution? :) This morning when I went to pour my cuppa, I seriously thought about scrubbing all the areas really well and then coating them with WaterLock or some other sealer. I didn't get to the tray/dispenser area other day and this morning it looks really nasty...yuck. I'm thinking that guests popping in (which they do quite often to visit my Mom and Dad) won't even want to use the dispenser thinking that I've never, ever cleaned it...that's how bad it looks after a few days....See MoreRelated Professionals
