I will start with Larry's post.My home county(Coffee)did not have any annotation for butterflies.There were 42 pages(counting front and back as 2 pages)with each page showing 2 maps outlining the state of AL. All the Counties were crammed in.The drawings were very small with no room To name the counties.The big map naming the counties was back on page 448.So I better just start with my county and Swallowtails(only single map Page that starts the checklist).Anyway,I went thru every page that followed Until the end of the checklist.No annotations for my county.I have a lot of These butterflies. So,I am seeing a lot of counties blank.Should they be blank?So,I would Like to see more participation coming from the counties to give input. The ladies who wrote the book stated the Butterflies and Moths of North America Web site as a source for the range map.The site can not give Accounts unless we give them input.I was not aware of the shortfall. I want to make it better. Thanks for posting and looking at the overall percentage of blanks will Take more time.I am thinking there were too many blank counties. DD

"We have a garmin that we have had for years and updated the maps and we also have a new one for the bus...the one in the car is portable (the older one) and we move it into the rental when need be...don't know why you'd need a new one if the old one works..." We upgraded at that time because the equipment usually starts to become obsolete too. Presumably the old equipment would break down before the new one. Unfortunately, that's the way electronics work. I live in an area similar to what Lucille is describing. The street names here are really odd. I need the latest info I can find because I wouldn't guess where a street was any other way.

A central location nearest to devices will allow for the best connection. Here are some tips for optimal modem placement: Let it breathe - Depending on the brand, your modem has little vents on the top, bottom and sides. Those vents are there so the modem can get air. Help it out by placing it on a desk (or similarly hard surface) and make sure there are a few inches between it and the wall. Keep it cool - Electronics don't like to be overheated. Keep them out of direct sunshine, away from radiators and separated from other electronics. Remove barriers - Physical barriers such as brick, walls, water, metal, reflective surfaces, windows and furniture can prevent wireless signals from effortlessly traveling back-and-forth between your modem and computer. Wireless signals need to be able to travel. If they can't, you end up with intermittent (or no) signal. To improve connectivity, try moving your modem (or the physical barrier). You may need to try a few locations to figure out what consistently works. Higher is better - Finding a place for your modem that's higher up (e.g., bookcase, shelf, upstairs), gets you better coverage. Places that are centrally located are even better. Keep your devices close - While they need breathing space of a few inches, ideally, your modem and computer shouldn't be separated by more than a few feet. Also, pay attention to how far away your computer is from the modem. Your wireless network only extends so far. When you're on the periphery, the signal starts getting weak and can be intermittent. If you need to boost your signal range, consider installing a wireless repeater.

I used to leave my back yard gate in Venice unlocked because I never expected anyone to wander into my back yard. However, my neighbor told me that a couple of teenage boys (surfers) went into my yard and stole three or four mangoes from my tree. They told my neighbor (who saw them) that they knew me, and when he asked them what my name was, they ran off with the mangoes. I was pretty upset about that. The neighbor's somewhat feeble father-in-law (who lived in the garage apartment in back) once came into my back yard, knocked on my kitchen door and demanded that my housemate Bernard take him to the bank so that he could get some money to buy a steak. Bernard does not know how to drive or have a car or drivers' license, and so he told me that I needed to take this man to the bank. I told Bernard that that would be kidnapping and that I would do nothing of the kind. I told my neighbor about this, and he said that his FIL did escape from time to time and get lost, and they would have a difficult time trying to find him. I did start locking my back yard gate after that. These days I have to leave by gate unlocked when L.A. DWP comes to check my electric meter. I had a friend from New York who said that when he had a car, he always left it unlocked so that it would not get broken into.
