Your copper flashing will turn a brownish color just like an old penny and the X's will be less in your face. You brick joints need attention, and this sticks out in a ugly way more than the X's because someone did a hack job trying to tuck point them. They just smeared mortar in the joints and on the bricks and it looks bad. It's lipstick on a pig and you should have a qualified mason fix that mess, and it involves taking off all the lipstick, grinding into the joint 3/4" and then applying new mortar into the joint and not all over the brick! Then indent the joint with a tool. The back side as seen in the additional pictures you provided looks really bad. About them not asking you something you know absolutely nothing about. What would of been your answer if they did ask? Did the roofer ask you which direction you wanted the ridge cap shingles to face? Of course not, and for good reason.

What op and some respondents don't realize is properly installed chimney flashing is set in mortar between brick as mason builds chimney. To replace flashing involves serious demolition on chimney that rarely matches when redone. The cutesy black flashing will look awful with mismatched mortar unless exceptional $$$ mason is hired. If you change siding when you want to change color of house I would understand if you changed flashing but that house doesn't look like where a multi-millionaire lives. So unless you want to flaunt your money do what normal folks do, PAINT IT.

Hi all, Yes, we're fine in South Africa. And I actually live in Lakeland, which is probably 150 miles south of Lake City. So Lakeland got a lot of rain (which it can handle easily), but not much if any real damage. Lake City, on the other hand, was much more directly in the path, so they may have had quite a lot of damage. I don't know. Malcolm

You have a beautiful home. The brick works beautifully with the stucco, giving the home interest and depth. The copper flashing is a wonderful material and the work that was done was done to perfection. Leave it alone. It doesn't need fixed.
