Brandy, you are joking, aren't you? Me as an enabler? I am embarrassed. I doubt that this term would ever fit me. I just try to be helpful:-) In addition, next year you will hate me if some of the roses will not be free of blackspot. It will be all my fault! However; Sunset Celebration is a great rose. Almost every rose balled in that Âapricot bed after the rain we finally got but not Sunset Celebration. I just cut a few stems and brought inside. Good bloomer Well-being is very nice but it does not do too well for me here close to the coast; I doubt that it would do well without spraying. In addition I find it a bit stingy bloomer. As I mentioned, we didnÂt spray since end of April* this year and Well-being does not have many leaves left. Defoliation could be partially caused by spider mite infestation but in front of Well being there is Belle Ãpoque and that rose is gorgeous! Healthy leaves and stunning two-tone flowers that are fragrant. *(DH just sprayed today and I followed up with calcium treatment to fight botrytis)

It looks like you live in zone 7. Why don't you plant the gardenia in the ground? I have two in the ground, and I am in Central AR, considered zone 7. They've been there for years, before we moved in. I know they've gotten down to between 10 and 15 degrees on occasion, and didn't show a strain. I read they defoliate under 10 F, but come back. If your winters do not drop below 10 very often, give it a try in the ground. If your ground freezes, you can just mulch the base, probably. Grow it in acid soil, near a pine tree or other conifer, maybe near an oak, or amend the soil for acid. The one I have out in the backyard is taller that I and as wide, and get covered in fantastic fragrant blooms every year. It roots easy in water, too. Or, in soil, so I've heard. If you know someone who's got a big one, just take a clipping in June or July and put in water in a warm place. In a few weeks, it should have roots (try several clippings to be sure one takes). If you don't know anyone with one, you could trade for clippings here on GW. I am going to try rooting several cuttings this year, so I may have extras myself in a few months. I'm just waiting for that nice hot weather to stay. Good luck with your Gardenia. I hope you can grow it outside, and have one really big.

I'm in Tennessee and I just bought one at a local nursery. She had them outside in large 3 gallon containers. They are now getting buds. Here's a photo... I hope these bloom more reliably than the old fashioned hydrangeas. Maybe someone who has had one bloom 2 years in a row could tell us more...Please!
