What is the deepest cast iron tub available in 5.5'

Please tell me if you know who makes a good quality, deep, 5.5' cast iron tub? I don't think 14" is deep. I understand the real usable depth is measured by the height of the overflow. It would be nice if it were reasonable. I think Waterworks has these but their cost is prohibitive. I have not decided on free standing or drop in so all suggestions are welcome. Thanks to all for suggestions.

My best suggestion is to study up each of the cast iron tubs at FaucetDirect.com - they have a sorting tool that lets you choose the deepest in their inventory. I don't know much about companies other than Kohler that make cast iron tubs, but would recommend a further browse at their site.

If you are not doing a 'new-modern' bathroom and don't mind hunting, if you don't find what you're looking for new, if you're in a city that might have a great architectural salvage yard, you may be able to find a great old-school one that can be refinished. I decided to keep my old cast iron tub and have it refinished partly because of the depth thing... actually a little more to do with its narrow width!

I, too, want a very deep cast iron soaking tub for our new master bath. I'm going with the sumptuous Kohler Tea for Two 5.5'. It's 19.5" to overflow (the deepest I could find) and holds a whopping 105 gallons! It can be dropped in, undermounted, or installed in an alcove. I'm trying to tell myself that I'm not ruining the planet by getting my dream soaker that guzzles water.

I laid in it at the plumbing supply showroom and didn't want to get out.

I don't know what cost prohibitive is to you, but this one isn't cheap. Kohler lists it in white for $2125, but Faucetdirect.com has it for $1434.

Oh, and I should mention a warning from the showroom saleswoman. The tub weighs more than 400 pounds. She told me that delivery and install will cost a bit more (whatever that means) because it is so heavy. Installing in on a second floor room can be tricky. Ours is new construction on the first floor so hopefully it won't be too difficult to deliver and install.

Me, too! I've been looking at the Tea for Two, but I want a tile flange and I really need a tub that's 60"long x 30" wide, (not 32") and prefer 14"+ water depth (at least 12") and cast iron. I would love any suggestions people have in addition to the suggestions above, which didn't meet by specs for depth or are over-mount drop-ins (or similar). I would also like to comment on the above recommendations so people don't order the wrong thing. Most clawfoot tubs, including the ones mentioned above such as the Cheviot or Sunrise Specialty, have a water depth that is around 11" at most. They are comfortable, but not deep. The Cheviot alcove tub is an over-mount drop-in with a water depth of under 11". It would have a calk line around a drop off on the deck. Oh, heck no! The Toto is an over-mount drop-in also. Dang! The Waterworks Minna sounds promising, and it has an apron, but what's with that moulded raised ridge at the top? It makes it look like a top-mount drop-in and have similar problems. I guess you wouldn't need calking, but you'd have that ridge water could get over and a lump under your head if you lean back. Has anyone installed one and has pictures? I'd love to be proved wrong on this one in spite of the price! It could be the perfect tub for me if it weren't for that top detail.

Hi Enduring. I have a Memoirs and love it except for the non-slip coating. Between my well water and clay soil the non-slip area gets an orangey, brown color that I cannot clean off easily. I don't have a water filter. I use a magic eraser and scrub, but it is soon nasty again. It is deep, comfortable and has a vintage vibe. One hint, check the finish of the porcelain carefully. We bought ours through Lowe's and twice it was delivered with a huge chip in it and the third one had tiny spots of glazing missing from the side under the drain. Something we didn't notice till partially installed. Kohler sent a replacement immediately and told use to keep the one we started to install.

Hi, we recently installed the Tea for Two whirlpool bath in our kids' bathroom, and we use it as a shower as well. We love it. It's the 5.5' model, alcove installation, left hand drain. I was originally concerned that it would be too hard for them to get into -- they are not little kids -- (three girls, ages 17, 13 and 12 when it was installed last year) but so far they have no complaints about having to climb into the tub to shower. I love it too for the occassional bath, as our master bath has only a shower. Here is a picture of it. It has subway tile on the walls and the apron of the tub, and a minimal deck. Our contracter initially put in a more gigantic deck, and I made him tear it out because it overwhelmed our somewhat small bathroom. It has a marble shelf at one end and niches at both ends to hold the girls' many bottles of products. I'm so glad we built in that much storage. Instead of a shower curtain, we went with a partial frameless glass door, because I thought it would give you more of a feeling of openness when you took a bath. We bought it through Expo, back in Nov. 2006 (it was not installed til last spring though because construction took so long). The price at the time was more reasonable, although I notice they keep going up in price. I don't find the whirlpool too noisy at all. It's probably quieter than other whirlpool tubs, and also more gentle, which suprised us at first. I love how deep and roomy it is. Hope this helps. I have to chime in here too about the Tea for Two. I love ours! We use it as a tub and shower in our girls' bathroom, and it works out well. I love soaking in it, and I even love showering in it because it is so roomy. But yes, it was a bear to get into our second floor bath. It took four men to carry it up the main stairway of our historical home, and let me tell you, there was a lot of cussing and they left several dents and nicks in our woodwork that lines the stairway. It wasn't pretty, but the tub is in, and we have no regrets.

By the way, we also have a claw foot tub in our third floor bath, which was original to the house, and it provides the same soaking experience, but uses much less water than the T42. It's also very pretty. If I were you, I would consider either one. Claw foot tubs tend to be pretty deep too.
