I'd be looking at one of two for the hex-- either the sanded platinum , or the sanded Delorean Grey.

At Daltile they told me to use unsanded. I remembered from your other posts that you said to use sanded for mosaic tile, which includes hex I'm assuming. What is the reason for that? I think I agree with you but I need to explain why to my designer and contractor and wonder why they would say the opposite at Daltile.

I bought a box of platinum (unsanded, because couldn't get sanded in a small bag) so will try it out. I think Delorean is one of the greys we thought were too dark (against the white subways).

The reason for the sanded grout is that for some reason, with any mosaics, unsanded grout always seems to end up shrinking into the joints and leaving alot of pinholes. The sanded grout won't do that.

As for the Delorean with the subway tile, I agree with you. But for the ming green marble, it'd work well.

Bickybee - would you have a photo to post. We are in design stage and are heading down a similar path of white subway on walls and ming hex/basketweave on the floor.

Also - do you have any experience with ming as a shower floor? I am curious as to staining issues as we were originally going with carrara hex/basketweave until we read some of the stories about that within a shower area.

tking, I'm sorry I don't have a photo. The floor tiles were immediately covered with paper to protect them while everything else is being installed. They have not been grouted yet, either.

They were building the vanity today. I think they will grout the tiles after it's installed.

We did put the ming hex on the shower floor but it'll be at least a month before I can report on how well it does. Maybe somebody else has some experience with this.

my experience -- it's a floor -- use as dark as you can stand, less risk of obvious discoloring over time.

In our last house, we used small ming green octagons on our shower floor. We also had a ming green listello border at eye level in the shower. We used an enhancing sealer to darken the tile to make it match our green granite counter. We did not have any trouble with discoloration in the 5 years before we sold the house. The small marble tiles felt nice underfoot -- plenty of grout for traction and slightly softer feeling than porcelain. We used off white grout because we were combining the ming with an off white porcelain field tile.

I tried a sample with the platinum and it looks great on both the ming green floor tiles and the white subway tiles. I think I'm going to use it on both although my architect prefers white grout on the subway tiles.

We're going to grout the floor first and a small section of the wall to see how we like it, and go from there.

I'm very happy with the way the two tiles work together. We ended up using platinum grout on the ming hex floor tiles and white on the white subway tiles. The room is very bright from a horizontal window above the shower/tub area. The brightness of the white subway tiles is very pleasing to me. There is a large tree outside the window. The green of the floor tiles ties nicely with the green from the tree. Then everything else is white.

Interestingly, in photos the floor looks darker than it does in person.
