A ceiling fan in the master bathroom?
Comments (7)Kim, Thank you so very much! The fan is made by Craftmade Fans. Made right here in Texas :) I knew I didn't want to go with another *big box* (China made) store brand and did my research as to what made a good fan. A heavy duty motor and pitch of the blades are important. They are a combination of good quality and good price. We installed two, one in the master bedroom and bathroom. The style (that I incorrectly indicated on my list of materials) is Pheonix NOT Cordova. The price was just under $150 Below is a link to the Pheonix. There are TWO pages of blade color/motor color combos. I bought ours on line at hansenwholesale.com 1(800)201-1193. Great customer service and quick delivery (no tax). I didn't order the remote at the time, but I'm going to do so right now. The chandy is by AF Lighting. Comments (3)A bathroom exhaust fan should produce 4 air exchanges per hour. Your bathroom is 7 x 7 which is 49sq.ft Assuming an 8' ceiling the total volume would be 49 x 8 = 392cu.ft We want four complete air exchanges per hour so that would be 392cu.ft x 4 = 1568cu.ft per hour. There are 60 minutes in an hour so we divide 1568 by 60min and it equals 26.13cfm. You currently have a 50cfm fan, which is twice the size you really require yet your having problems with the mirror fogging up. I suspect your problem is not the fan. Nature abhors a vacuum therefore a fan cannot push air out of a room unless there is provision for an equal amount of air to enter the room. You can test the theory by running the shower and leaving the bathroom door slightly ajar to allow more air to enter the room. Generally they make a slightly higer gap under the bottom of a bathroom door to allow more space for makeup air to enter the room but in some circumstances that does not provide enough makeup air. The solution then is to install a duct through the wall to an adjacent room and put a grille on either side. That will allow the additional air....See MorePre-purchasing items for new home construction
Comments (32)I think the best answer to the buying-ahead question is DEFINITELY MAYBE. Too many details to answer with one blanket answer. For example: - I have already bought stained glass light fixtures for my kitchen /dining table. I know they're terribly out of style and dated, but I have wanted them literally since I was a child, and my love for them has never wavered ... so too bad "dated police". I wanted them, and I found them for a good price, and they're mine. They're new items /standard sizes, so I'm not overly worried about installation problems. - Warranties ... yeah, that's a very reasonable concern. But it depends upon what you're buying. I wouldn't "buy ahead" a range or refrigerator more than a month or two in advance ... unless I could literally get it for less than half price (unlikely) and I could be made to feel that the value outweighed the risk. Also, yeah, I have nowhere to store appliances. On the other hand, I already have some cabinet hardware for laundry room and bedroom built-ins. What are the chances that I'd use the warranty on a cabinet pull? And -- if I did -- what would I lose? A couple dollars. - I have looked at clearance tile a hundred times, and often I see things I like, but that's just too big a risk /too big a storage item /not enough on clearance. - I have a smattering of other things for my new house ... but mostly accessories: some mirrors and rugs. A set of drapes for the bedroom. Some bathroom accessories. I can't think of what else, but ALL bought on clearance, all at least 70% off. I recognize that these are a risk ... and I won't buy "in advance" unless I save significantly....See Morerecessed bathroom exhaust fan with light on sloped ceiling
