I need suggestions on a Good lcd monitor

I'm in the market for a nice black lcd 19-22" monitor.

I don't want a walmart job but there are so many choices I don't really know whats best for my money. Can someone suggest a quality reliable monitor brand?

I assume Sony, Acer, and Lenovo make good stuff but what about all the brands that aren't as common? Are thay worth a shot?

Also, is e-bay the best place to shop? What about new egg? I'm in a small town far from big office stores so online is the best option for me.

I have 3 LCD monitors, a 22inch Samsung 226BW, a 19inch Samsung 912T and a 19inch Acer AL1916W and all three have done me well. Regarding the 22inch which is my main monitor, it does take a little getting used to but I like it. You can set 2 windows side by side if needed. If you have Vista it allows plenty of room for the gadget bar down the right side, if you have XP you can download and install the Vista gadget bar if you are in to those things.

Viewsonic do not seem to be as good as they were a while back.

In recent years Acer has improved their quality considerably. HP also seem to make a good monitor. If you are not in a drastic rush you might select a few models then watch the Sunday Saver for good prices. As we move into spring computer related items sales tend to lag so sales are sometimes better.

I have an ACER 19" not widescreen I don't like the widescreens mine is AL1916 I got it at buy.com for a super price and I absolutely love it have never had a single problem with it, just plugged it in and used it, super easy to use. I do like buy.com I have bought a lot from them with super fast shipping and usually free shipping, also like newegg.

I assume since you refer to 'multiple pc's' you have a 4 port KVM switch. Was there any software with this? I always used a 2 port KVM which just required me to hit the scroll lock button twice. How do you swap towers with your switch. What brand and model do you have?

I have to respectfully disagree with Digitalden. Digitalden is recommending purchasing resolutions that are even now out of date. The flat panel TVs are developing so fast that they become dated quickly, so the least you should do is try to get the latest tech available. Also, if akchicago does not currently have cable or satellite, he/she may wish to get it in the future, but going with the 480p resoloution closes the door completely on the HDTV option in the future. Better to have as much flexibility now with this purchase, than have to purchase a whole other TV in a year or two. I agree though that Sharp is not the best. The Sharp Acquos definitely used to be absolutely the best LCD on the market, but in the last year or so, it has been overtaken by Samsung, Sony and and surprising companies like Dell and LG. Those companies' LCD's have better black tones, and are simply more refined and cutting-edge than the Acquos, at least for now...

No regrets what-so-ever. As it was, I was poised to buy the Sony Bravia but I felt that the picture was not as good. It actually looked blurry to me. Again, this is my own personal opinion. Additionally, the Bravia is more $$. Two of my other TV's are Sony Trinitrons and they have been very good to me. I'll make one more suggestion. A lot of times these big electronic chains will let last years model go a lot cheaper than the brand new model. Sometimes the only difference between this years and last years model is the contrast ratio. While it is true that the higher the contrast ratio the better your picture, sometimes the difference is something like 6000:1 vs. 7000:1. Again, I'll bet most people will be hard pressed to see the difference..especailly for a thousand dollars. Please remember, this is my own opinion. If you do go after a left over model, make sure it has all the features you were looking for in a brand new model. You have a tough decision to make. Will there be a gaming system, like Playstation, hooked up to the TV? Will there be anyone who will leave a static picture on the set for a really really long time? Will the set be kept in a room that is bright most of the time? If you answered yes to all these questions, then you'd be better off with a LCD. If not, then you'll be able to get a bigger screen for a lot less if you go with plasma. One other thing. How far away will you be viewing the TV from? Most people think thas getting a gigantic set and plopping themselves down three feet from the screen will give them a movie theater like experience..buzzzzzz, wrong. The only thing it will do is first give you a headache and then make you angry because the picture will look like a million little boxes. In any case, LCD's look less boxy close up. Again, see these things for yourself when you go looking. By the way, you're not a pest. ;-)

Well.... First off, the security guys are apparently clueless. Putting four speakers in the ceiling makes NO sense at all....NONE. There are a lot ot things that I, as a pro in the AV business, would want to know. 1. Wall mounting? 2. Want/need surround sound? 3. Cable or satellite? 4. DVD (at one or all)? 5. Any existing AV gear that you would "like" to keep using? 6. Would you want distributed Audio? 7. Would you want distributed video? Surely there is a true systems integration firm in your area? A company that specializes in AV installations rather than security installations?

I have a Dell 20" that I bought 8 years ago and it still works great. I just checked their site to see what monitors cost these days, and noticed they are having a 48-hour sale that ends very soon (April 23). The sale prices looked very reasonable: $189 for a 23" monitor, $159 for a 21.5".

I hope Acer's support is better than their ability to answering a simple question. They sell at least two 22" wide screens at the same price. There's a huge difference in the contrast ratios, whatever that is. I asked them for a "simple" explanation. They responded in technical jargon. When I asked for clarification I got no response. Thanks. I'm looking @ a used 20" IBM on e-bay. I hope they used quality parts in their monitors.

If I loose the auction I'll check the suggestions.

you need to be very very careful with used lcd monitors they often have dead or stuck pixels if that happens on a new monitor it will be taken care of but with a used one and on ebay doubt they would.

I agree with ravencajun, be very aware of used monitors, I would want to see it working myself which is not practical on eBay.

IBM computers were bought out by Lenovo of China, not sure if Lenovo make the monitors. This is merely a comment not a put down on Lenovo products.

I kept getting outbid on the used IBM 19" which went for $133
I went to new egg.com and bought a new HaansG 19" for $109 with free shipping.......
What the heck, I'll give it a try. It seemed to have the best reviews for a budget desktop monitor.
