I need suggestions on a Good lcd monitor

I'm in the market for a nice black lcd 19-22" monitor.

I don't want a walmart job but there are so many choices I don't really know whats best for my money. Can someone suggest a quality reliable monitor brand?

I assume Sony, Acer, and Lenovo make good stuff but what about all the brands that aren't as common? Are thay worth a shot?

Also, is e-bay the best place to shop? What about new egg? I'm in a small town far from big office stores so online is the best option for me.

I have 3 LCD monitors, a 22inch Samsung 226BW, a 19inch Samsung 912T and a 19inch Acer AL1916W and all three have done me well. Regarding the 22inch which is my main monitor, it does take a little getting used to but I like it. You can set 2 windows side by side if needed. If you have Vista it allows plenty of room for the gadget bar down the right side, if you have XP you can download and install the Vista gadget bar if you are in to those things.

Viewsonic do not seem to be as good as they were a while back.

In recent years Acer has improved their quality considerably. HP also seem to make a good monitor. If you are not in a drastic rush you might select a few models then watch the Sunday Saver for good prices. As we move into spring computer related items sales tend to lag so sales are sometimes better.

I have an ACER 19" not widescreen I don't like the widescreens mine is AL1916 I got it at buy.com for a super price and I absolutely love it have never had a single problem with it, just plugged it in and used it, super easy to use. I do like buy.com I have bought a lot from them with super fast shipping and usually free shipping, also like newegg.

The Man for reds = David Kirchhoff! And, no, I don't even have any of his yet. But I've seen BETTY FORD and others in my nearby AHS display garden, and they are stunners. I also second floota on POINT OF VIEW, a Sanford Roberts. One of my top favs in my garden this year. LARGE and BRIGHT. Stunner. The always and deservedly popular RUBY SPIDER. I'm in love with this one. An older, very good red: POINCIANA REGAL. Good, good doer, dormant, I really like this one. I saw HOLLY DANCER, which gonegardening mentioned, at clump strength in a region 3 summer meeting tour garden....one word = WOW! One that was also a clump strength wowser, and that I have and can vouch for is the newer and still pricy RED SALLY, a Gossard beauty. Sunfast! (gonegardening & floota -- that was the eyecatching Gossard red in the Bange garden, wasn't it??? I forgot to write the name down.) Yet another fab one at clump strength and, coincidentally, in the same tour garden as the two above, is Pat Cochenour's MYSTIC PIZZA....now that I think about it, I think you "need" that one! Clump strength wowser but sounds like it'd be too short for what you want: REGENCY DANDY. In fact, that one and another you should look at, ROCKET BOOSTER, a Santa Lucia, tied for first place as best red. One that I got yesterday at the club event and so can't say much about is ROYAL GUARDSMAN, a John Benz red. But I've never seen a Benz intro I haven't loved, and this one's registered as having 35 buds on 4 branches. If I were to go through the little notebook I carry to gardens, I could list WAY too many reds. But say the word, and I'll do it. :)

I just quickly looked at office depot.. Really lots of monitors, almost all are under 200 dollars. LED only is a slight diff for newest stuff. LED supposed to be quicker, brighter, more colorful & use something like 40% less energy than lcd... way longer life too than fluorescent back lighting on lcd's. All I looked at seem to have hdi & vga outputs. My TV was bought right before hd.. hybrid digital / analog huge thing. Analog 4x3 screen, sort of square looking.. that shows wide screen with black border above & below the video for wide screen broadcasts. Regular full screen now is mostly commercials. Odd at first.. but now its normal to me.

Perhaps you have changed the timings for the computer and/or monitor. to check do this. Click start click Control panel In the new window just look at the top bar and click the small right facing arrow click All Control Panel Items in the drop down menu click the small arrow again click Power Options In this window you are probably set to "Balanced" Either way click "Change plan settings" to the right of the one selected by the dot Now you can adjust the timings for both the computer and the monitor if you wish, remember to save before editing. Is that any help?

Yes, it can be done. I bought a 19 inch Sharp LCD TV last summer and experimented with feeding a signal from an older laptop to it. The RGB video connection was used sucessfully. (An RGB cable is much lower in cost than a HDMI cable plus many older laptops do not have a HDMI output. The cost range of an HDMI cable is from $45 to $120.) On the laptop, I set the "display" to both screen and external device. On the TV, I entered its menu and changed its input to the RGB port. Both worked well. I intend to use this combination for a rock-hound club show to demonstrate gem cutting software. I can sit behind a table facing people who come forward to view the display. I can operate the laptop and monitor the results on its screen while the viewers can observe on the larger TV screen facing them. I plan a live demonstration, but as an option, I could also prepare a Power Point presentation and let that run when I take a break.

I have a Dell 20" that I bought 8 years ago and it still works great. I just checked their site to see what monitors cost these days, and noticed they are having a 48-hour sale that ends very soon (April 23). The sale prices looked very reasonable: $189 for a 23" monitor, $159 for a 21.5".

I hope Acer's support is better than their ability to answering a simple question. They sell at least two 22" wide screens at the same price. There's a huge difference in the contrast ratios, whatever that is. I asked them for a "simple" explanation. They responded in technical jargon. When I asked for clarification I got no response. Thanks. I'm looking @ a used 20" IBM on e-bay. I hope they used quality parts in their monitors.

If I loose the auction I'll check the suggestions.

you need to be very very careful with used lcd monitors they often have dead or stuck pixels if that happens on a new monitor it will be taken care of but with a used one and on ebay doubt they would.

I agree with ravencajun, be very aware of used monitors, I would want to see it working myself which is not practical on eBay.

IBM computers were bought out by Lenovo of China, not sure if Lenovo make the monitors. This is merely a comment not a put down on Lenovo products.

I kept getting outbid on the used IBM 19" which went for $133
I went to new egg.com and bought a new HaansG 19" for $109 with free shipping.......
What the heck, I'll give it a try. It seemed to have the best reviews for a budget desktop monitor.
