Limited size on copy and paste?

I have two computers on a router and can share files between the two if the files are set for "file sharing", but for some reason Office 2007 SP1 at over 220 MBytes can not be copied from one computer to the other over their Ethernet connections. Each computer can see the other computer and I can copy other ".exe" files that are much smaller, say 5 Mbytes.

This leads me to think there must be a size limit set somewhere, but I can't find it if there is. Then, maybe there is some other reason, help appreciated.

Can right click the file and 'Send to' ?
Then it should prompt for move or copy.

I've moved gigabytes across the lan with the send to feature and have a 200mb text file I use for a speed test somewhat frequently.

Thanks mikie, but when I click "Send to" I get a list of locations, all on the base computer, including DVD and USB Drive. It does not provide a choice of "copy" or "move".

I'm running XP Home on the machine I'm trying to move to, and XP Media on the machine I want to copy from. I am doing all operations from the XP Home, i.e., I am trying to "Send to" from the receiving computer, not the source computer, that may be the reason I get what noted.

That message doesn't refer to the size of the columns, but rather to the number of columns (or rows). If you're highlighting an area before pasting, don't do that. Just put the cursor in the first cell where you want to start pasting and it should work

i collect penguins. I once had a party and gave away a bottle of wine to the person who guessed the number of penguins in my apartment. It was kind of fun--people walked around counting penguins (each penguin counted--so the bowl rimmed w/ penguins as 8, not 1). I don't really have a limit, but I have slowed down the purchasing of them, and I've finally gotten people to believe that they shouldn't buy me something just because it was a penguin/had a penguin on it. I've packed some away bcs I just didn't have room. Or, they were displayed on the floor and I had a pre-toddler. Now I *only* buy a penguin if it really speaks to me, or if it's a great memento of someplace I've been (I don't just buy a penguin bcs I want some sort of memento). Otherwise, I've forced them over to the "Christmas ornament" category; that's where I will add on without restraint. If we ever had a bigger house, I'd have a "penguins only" tree and another tree for my kids' ornaments and the other general ornaments. The hardest part of trying to limit my collection is that people would give me penguins, just because. And I ended up w/ some sort of unnecessary penguins--just ordinary ones, or a mug just bcs it has penguins on it. I finally decided I wanted a true collection, not an accumulation. So I look for unusual materials, unusual designs, etc. I bought a penguin because it was blown glass and very stylized; I didn't have one w/ that look. But I walk right past the ones that are painted-and-glazed ceramic, bcs I have a ton of those. And I refuse to buy cutesy ones w/ hats, etc. Or, I very *seldom* buy them.

Since it's tip day, here's a couple of mine: I just zoom in and out of the page with the ctrl key and the mouse wheel. A quick way to increase or decrease font size is press ctrl shift and the > (to increase) or Another little tip while typing, if you make a typo, it's often quicker to just retype the word rather than backspace through all the letters or use the mouse to highlight. Just press ctrl and backspace and you'll wipe out the prior word. The last tip is another reason I like Opera so much better than anything else. Reading the forums you often scroll right or left. With Opera (and Chrome has an extension for this) you can just hit the "fit to width" button and zoom in as much as you need to increase font size. And a hit on the space bar brings you down a page worth in viewing. So many tips, so little time....

The Houzz format already existed. They grafted Garden Web onto it to host it because Garden Web was no longer being hosted. The GW announcements said that GW would go away if someone did not offer to host it. The GW format was developed in 1995 and was somewhat cumbersome and out of date. I found an interesting thread that might help explain and share opinions of others: G-web joining houzz, what do you think?

Do you have a Send to / File ...
then you should see a bullet to check for copy or move.

No, right click produces a menu with:
"Send to >" where the right hand arrow produces an new menu with nine items, including: Compressed Folder, email recipient, Palm handheld, Removable drives, and DVD.

There is no "/ File or copy or move".

no send to File. Maybe thats an addon.
Perhaps open two explorer windows then drag and drop.

Yep, tried drag and drop, no good.

This isn't a "show stopper", I can always download the update again on the second computer, or use a memory stick to physically carry the patch between computers. This may be my action, I have two additional computers to update.

I now see the subject update is now available on MS Update along with Framework SPs, totaling over 600 Mbytes.

In any case, my interest remains on figuring out why I can't copy a large file over my home Ethernet, but I can copy smaller files, e.g., 5 MBytes...i.e., the Ethernet seems to be working.

I'd be looking at swap file size and free disk space.
