The difference?

Could someone please explain to this computer dumb person the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R and also the difference between CD+R and CD-R? Thank you so much.

The truth is that the two competing technologies use different formats. No single company "owns" DVD and both technologies have their "champions".

DVD-R/RW was developed by Pioneer. Based on CD-RW technology, it uses a similar pitch of the helix, mark length of the 'burn' for data, and rotation control. DVD-R/RW is supported by the DVD Forum, an industry-wide group of hardware and software developers, and computer peripheral manufacturers. The DVD-R format has been standardized in ECMA-279 by the Forum, but this is a private standard, not an 'industry' ISO standard like the CD-R/RW Red Book or Orange Book standard.

DVD+R/RW is also based on CD-RW technology. DVD+R/RW is supported by Sony, Philips, HP, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha, and others, and has recently been endorsed by Microsoft. DVD+R/RW is not supported by the DVD Forum, but the Forum has no power to set industry standards, so it becomes a market-driven issue.

Technical Answer

DVD+R is a dvd disc that allows multiple layers for one disc where as dvd-r only allows one layer. They will not compete to become the de Facto standard, because they are both here to stay. Multi layer DVD+R can allow extra capacity per disc than DVD-R hence its high cost!

Peony smell is classified into 5 different catagories of scent. For the life of me I cant remember what all 5 are. #1 I know the first scent was the floral scent. Some smell like roses, some almost like magnolia. It is the best scent of all and my favorite. #2 I know another is spice. Some of the peonies in my yard have blends of smells I get from our kitchen spice rack. #3 The coral and salmon peonies tend to have smells that are in the carrion range. That is right! Just like 2 week old ROAD KILL. Not a pleasant scent but they add nicely to the color range of herbaceous peonies. Can anyone suggest the other two scents. Like I said, I can't remember them at all. The brand of paint is not as important as the colors if you want a cohesive look. Usually the trim is the same color throughout, however, that is a rule I have broken from time to time. While there are a lot of different whites, colors look different room to room because for example a south-facing room might be next to a north-facing room. You do have to think about where two colors are going to meet and whether they are going to work together. While it is common to have the same color throughout the first floor for instance, that is also a rule I have broken before. It is common to take more liberties with the color of bathrooms and bedrooms. There are articles on Houzz you can read to educate yourself about a whole house color scheme, or if you want more help here, post some pictures of the areas you're concerned about and show or at least name the colors you're considering with the brand names.

Paint has measured colour attributes which paint companies use as a target to ensure consistency from batch to batch. But the colour target can often be achieved in mutiple ways. Somtimes a shot of a particular colourant maybe so small, even in a large can, that it becomes too difficult to reproduce as an even smaller percentage, for a sample can. So they combine other colourant proportions to achieve the same measured target colour. That’s why examining formulas for colourant ratios is a waste of time. They can be different depending upon the size of can. Most often, if a colour doesn’t appear in a particular space as you imagine it should? It is due to the quality of available light & the context of the room in which you paint it. ’Change the light + you change the colour.’ Less often colours are mixed incorrectly at the store.

They tinker with their formulas, but it's essentially the same thing, however, Cambria does not tinker with its prices. They have seen that there is no business to be had competing against Vietnam and China on price and they aren't going to play their game. Cambria is successfully building a brand. They've got very good service, stay on top of quality control, and lead the industry with designs and colors. If that's worth something to you, pay up. As a businessperson, I admire this strategy.

Just look at it as 2 companies or groups of companies trying to outdo each other and snag the market for themselves.

Much like 8 track and cassette if you are old enough to know 8 track. Companies create something while others use a different technic but both hope they will be the successful candidate.

Much like Apple/Mac, MS, Commodore, Texas Instrument and all the others trying to gain the lion's share in the computer wold.

No, they definately arent the SAME. When I created a montage I burned it on a DVD+R and it ddnt work. The software manufacterer told me I must use DVD-R disks and then it worked just fine.
