downloading mp3 music from amazon

I'm the one with dial up service:>( I successfully downloaded two songs at different times over the last few months from Amazon. Recently though downloads are unsuccessful. They say "FAILED" "TRY AGAIN" Amazon has been good in that they refund my $.99 and they sent me several pages of directions but nothing has worked so far. They want me to call them but I hesitate because my system is so slow and I don't have loads of time to spend on the phone. I am the only person who uses my PC and nothing has changed on my system. Any help for me?

Does it start to download or not? And how long did it take to download a song previously with dialup? I'm wondering if it takes so long that the connection may time out. Alternatively, the quality of your connection may be variable and cause some problem such that the download of the song may get dropped. There may be no easy solution for this type of problem.

Also - make sure you are not getting any updates (Windows updates, etc.)

I used to have dialup and I went into my task manager and shut everything down except the bare essentials to make a download work.

It is amazing what constantly tries to update if you let it. Lots of programs will be set to automatically update unless you change it.

Audacity records digital audio information. If you're recording a sound sourced from a record, with the sound source connected to a PC, it's gone through a A to D conversion. Which is what my first comment today mentioned as a factor limiting quality. PC level sound converters are of low quality generally. A really good one all by itself costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Whether a sound is stored in analog form or in consumer digital source, at the point where it's inside a PC and "recordable", it's digital. Digital is digital, the original source doesn't matter as far as ways to record it. When you say "OP", are you talking about the conversation above from many years back? PS - there's nothing at all wrong with sound stored in digital form, per se. Most modern musical sound recordings are stored in that way. But at the recording studio level, the sound is lossless and is at VERY high bitrates and VERY high sample rates, much higher in both regards than anything available or playable at a consumer level. Playback of such recordings over appropriate equipment sounds nearly exactly the same as the sound was live.

My guess is that there's a timeout setting, either on their end or yours and you're exceeding that. Maybe you could call them, explain that you've got dialup and see if there's some way to get it that would not time out.

From my days on dialup I seem to remember that if only a partial download happened I would go back to the site and start it again but the download continued from where the previous download stopped.

Timeouts were implemented I believe because people would connect early in the day and leave the connection open so they had internet when they came home later.

In Task Manager it shows I am running Amazon download;earthlink.net;kodak software;and new tab Google Chrome. What, if any, should I delete to use MP3?
Also, should my speed be high? It was on normal.
