I realize this is an old post, but from personal experience (and I am not speaking necessarily about children) hooks are very plausible as a) they prevent over stacking b) gives the towels a chance to dry c) actually can look tidier as there is no need to fold/drape d) also purposeful for hanging a bathrobe or your clothes while bathing or even a small bathmat if floor space is tight. That said; for easy hanging of large bath sheets due to their length; I have sewn on a colour co-ordinated loop (double fold cotton bias tape found in the sewing notions) about mid way down on one side. Re style; just ensure you choose a hook that has a reasonable projection and has some sort of a stopper at its end and experiment with its spacing if using more than one. Oh, should add for those with the same question and have limited space for mounting; you might wish to look at a swivel type of hook as well that have more than one arm/hook.

I think that you should decide the tile height based on the height of the room and other fixed elements in it. Generally, it looks most pleasing to have a break on the wall, like tile or chair rail, go up either ~1/3 of the wall height or ~2/3.... without bisecting the electrical outlets or hitting a window opening in a funny place. Also- the style of the house or room comes into play. If you have a period home, look at where tile is typically stopped for that era/style.

I just painted this powder room and my son just snapped the towel bar so I don't know if I should use a bar style again or go with a ring? Also, I need an outside opinion regarding colour, stainless steel like the faucet or black like the light? Currently the toilet paper holder is white like the broken towel holder currently on the wall...I guess I need to match that to the towel holder? I worry about my patch job when removing these things, any tips?

All good questions and thoughts. We still have time to change things. I believe cement will be poured some time this week. The opening between the shower door and the vanity is the beginning of the small hall that leads to our closets. There are 4 windows in the bathroom (3 by tub and 1 in the water closet). I never thought about flipping the linen closet and the door to the shower. That actually makes a lot of sense. I'm just now looking for lights etc.. I've been reading about mixing metals and we have decided to go with brushed nickel, black and a spattering of brass. We haven't picked out the wood or stain yet so the dominant metal will be what looks like the best with the wood. We have an appointment this coming Friday to pick out faucets etc.!
