How can we make this sink work in our bathroom?

We recently redid our tiny half-bath, and I like the way everything looks except the sink. It's a basic pedestal sink from Lowe's, and we replaced a (very pink) pedestal sink, so the hook-ups were already there. But when my husband and his dad went to install the new sink and pedestal, it was several inches shorter than the other sink had been. We didn't want to have to get someone to re-do all the hookups, and plus the sink would seem really short to us, so my father-in-law who's pretty handy made a wood block to fit between the pedestal and the sink, and painted an aluminum strip to go around it and hopefully blend in with the sink. The paint chip matched the sink exactly, but it came out much whiter. Should we keep trying with a different paint color, or is there some other way to solve this dilemma? I don't really want to get a new sink because I like this one. I would have thought sinks would all be one height.

Here's a couple of pictures. The lighting makes the colors look strange though - the sink and toilet really are white, and the walls are tan. For some reason they all look sort of pink in the picture. The aluminum strip isn't as obvious as it looks in the picture - people we've showed the bathroom to haven't noticed until I pointed it out. But it still bothers me!

I understand flash photography and how it accentuates everything you don't want it to, not to mention the color shift, so, having said that AND having a "noticer" on steroids, I'd do one of two things. Leave it alone. You'll stop seeing it after awhile and I'm almost certain no one else sees it. Or, keep trying with the paint. I looked and looked at the picture, knowing something bothered you about the sink but didn't read what it was till after I tried to find it. If I even saw it I'm sure I thought it was a reflection from the flash :)

Maybe they come in different heights and you can exchange it. I'm so not the plumber, but it seems like there would be some kind of piping that allows for this sort of thing. I can't imagine that everything would have to be raised just because the sink is higher. You may want to call a real hardware store and ask if they have a suggestion.

Glad you've considered all the options for the tub.... I know the exact feeling in having caregivers for my mom, so you've definitely got it all figured out! Bless you for caring for your mom for the 8 year span! I'd still consider a walk-in tub for exactly your age on forward, then you can really enjoy it for years to come whatever comes your way. I have 'frosted' sconces in my bathroom and had custom holes made into the mirror so the sconces come through my mirror and give it extra sparkle and light. But I put the sconce centered above the sink, way above my head (not on the sides), and I have cans above. I prefer frosted because the clear glass is difficult to clean in a bathroom, esp if you get steam, etc. Also, when I look directly into the exposed bulbs (Edison), they hurt my eyes... Most every bathroom sconce in photos seems to be frosted, so what you have above may not be the best choices.... So go with THE FLO! Her ideas are always on point! Here are some ideas of placing sconces above the mirror as a thought. They don't always have to go on the side. That way you can get away with 1 over each sink (plus your recessed). If you have custom mirror cut (which I love to do), then you can cut the hole perfectly so you can place the sconce on the mirror to give it even more light bounce...(several examples below) Also, Houzz has great lighting for fairly cheap and I believe some of the PROS can give your their code for an additional discount. This little single scone above is only $20. I'd shop on Houzz over Overstock personally..... I vote for a FROSTED glass either way, or a shade or froster cover either way. Taking down the clear glass covers to clean them would be a pain...

I had a door something like that in a bathroom once...they can be an eyesore, frankly. In your situation, I wonder if you could extend the small white cabinet upwards somehow to cover the door? Maybe add a shelf unit on top of it? That would make the room look more finished. Then you could add white accessories in different textures -- thick, fluffy white towels with some kind of white rug, maybe a white wicker waste bin or white mother-of-pearl accessories, etc. You have a good start with some of the items on top of the cabinet.

I almost painted my weird apricot/peachy bathroom tile when I moved in (fall 2019) but my friend talked me out of it. I also have black accent tiles. I found a stunning shower curtain at Target, a sort of watercolor motif that picks up perfectly on the tile color, painted my walls grey (sounds weird but it works with the black tile), added gray rugs and towels and a brushed nickel towel rack/hooks. I get so many compliments and I'm so glad I didn't paint it. Do share whatever you decide to do.

We were considering exchanging the sink but we like it, and it was like half the price of the Kohler Memoirs, which was the only other one I liked at Lowes. As far as the piping, it pretty much has to be the same height as the old sink or it won't fit - and since the new sink is shorter, everything would show. I guess the "real" fix would be to get the piping redone, but then we'd have to have the holes re-drywalled which I'm sure wouldn't be easy. Plus then the sink would feel pretty short.

How about making it an accent instead of trying to blend it in? Your faucets appear to ORB. You can purchase metallic paint to match at a craft store - it looks great and is really tough stuff. It could dress up your sink a little.

I like that idea! Work with the contrast instead of fighting it...I will have to play around with that.
