Sink advice for teeny half bath

I am looking to do a quick, inexpensive update for a very small half bath. (circa 1955) I can't move the plumbing or enlarge so my options are limited.

I want to add a new floor, sink and commode. There's a wall mount sink there now. I'd thought of a small vessel sink, but because of the layout, I don't have room for a vanity base (toilet is perpendicular to the sink and you need some leg room under the sink for taller folks.

Are pedestals out of style? Any other options for a sleek or updated look?

(Sink dimensions are very tight - no more than 16Wx 14.5D.

What would you do for a floor? Right now there's sheet vinyl and it's an uneven floor.

Any ideas would be appreciated - especially if you have pictures or links!

I hope pedestal sinks aren't out of style. I just ordered one from Toto for my master bath renovation!

You shouldn't have any difficulty finding a stylish sink in a pedestal or wall mount style. I suspect you may be far more limited by what I think is the very small size of the sink that will fit. You may need to just start googling. But yes, I think you can put in a pedestal or wall mount and look up to date. Sorry I can't be more help with specifics.

I keep reading that larger tiles make a room look bigger, so I would put in the largest floor tile you can find that you like and doesn't look ridiculous, laid on the diagonal if you want it to look even bigger. But I would definitely do tile of some kind, not vinyl again, unless you're going for a very specific sort of retro look.

Definitely a round, not elongated, toilet, no matter what the salespeople tell you about how much more comfortable the elongated is. And, depending on the exact configuration of the sink, I'd be careful about the height of the toilet. Some of them now come higher, sometimes called right height, I think. It's supposed to be easier on aging knees, etc, but if there's an issue with tall people needing to tuck their knees under the sink, you don't them to be sitting up too high to do that.

Duravit makes some lovely wall sinks that are small. We have one here in a tiny bath I believe it is about 12 inches deep or less and maybe 16 wide. We have a single lever faucet on it by Lacava, Samuel Heath mirror and galvanized barn light looking hanging fixture. Marble mosaic on the walls and the floor is a gray quartz. we get so many complements for a tiny room!

Our powder room is at the front of a very long laundry room, just inside the back door in the kitchen. In trying to eliminate doorways from our kitchen to make room for more cabinets, several people made the suggestion of removing the kitchen/laundry door, and putting the entrance to the laundry in the dining room. Not a terrible idea on its own, but I shut it down quick. As it is now, I have a curtain dividing the functional laundry from the part that’s essentially a vestibule for the powder room. Moving the door would have taken visitors through the laundry room. And that is absolutely a no go for me. We are considering taking down same door and trimming it as a doorway, because in 8 years in this house I don’t think the door has been closed once. But now I’m really intrigued by the idea of a swinging door. Or possibly just putting a pneumatic door closer on it. Hmmmmm. Back to your situation... Aside from not having much room for sorting and keeping baskets, I think your architects plan would be ok if there were room for some type of door, but it doesn’t look like it. I would like your plan with the addition of a doorway connecting guest room #4 to the other bedroom hallway, for access to the shower without going through the dining room. I do like Mama goose’s plan the best. Usually do :)

Nancy Barbour - Thank you for the info on swanstone. That may be the better option. Also, yes, good idea to make the toilet paper niche a little taller with a shelf. I'm thinking its a good place to set down a cell phone. :) Lol, so many of you want to change the layout/doorswing Here's some ideas of what I've got. This is the hallway outside the bathroom, from the left, the doors are: bedroom, closet, bathroom, and half-height closet with A/C return. I don't want to change the door swing into the hallway. Having the bathroom door open to the left would mean moving the electric/light switch, and its only a 28" door, so having it swing wide to the right allows a larger passageway. No room for a barn door. Here's what's currently stored in the cabinet. As you can see, its not anything that can't be put in the closet, or that needs to be in the bathroom, other than the toothbrushes. I think I can just put a cute toothbrush holder on the ledge on the sink and call it good. This is a hall bathroom, but basically a powder room that just happens to have a bathtub. So, here's a couple questions - the floor tile has a baseboard tile. Should I do a tile baseboard with that tile, or a white wooden baseboard? Re: the tub surround - to the ceiling? And we are having a shower curtain, because I don't want to try reaching around a glass door to turn on the shower, AND, the shower curtain allows privacy from the outside window, without having to figure out a window covering for a shower window. If the surround goes to the ceiling, how high up to put the shower curtain? Should I get an extra tall one, or? Thank you so much.

Is it possible to change the doorway going into the bathroom to that smaller side wall so you're facing the tub when entering, and not the toilet? Or do you have room at the bottom of hte stairs to put a door on that wall so it's closer to the laundry? I'd put sliding doors over the laundry so you're not looking at it while using the tub, but give yourself as much space as possible inside the laundry area so you can install a hanging rod and have some countertop space. You could also consider using stacking appliances.
