help making an asian-type soaking tub
Comments (2)I've done site-built indoor tubs two different ways. I did one years ago with liquid membrane, it was a free-form type of thing. Did another, more regular in its geometry, and lined it with Kerdi and tiled. I've done a couple of outdoor tubs using large precast concrete rings used for water lines. Cast concrete can be heavy. A 4" thick section weighs about 50 pounds a sqft. 3" thick around 37#/sqft....See MoreGot House Plans ... Stair Placement?
Comments (29)Autumn09 and chisue - I also have thought that walking across the bedroom to go between bathroom and closet would be less than ideal ... and actually, the view in the back is much better than the view of the neighbor's garage on the side! So perhaps by trying to shorten the hallway, I've actually created a different problem! Putting the closets between the bedroom and bath - while convenient - really wouldn't help with the long hallway would it? Or am I missing something? The idea of a "vestibule" sounds interesting, but I can't picture what you're talking about, autumn09 .. sorry!! Is there somewhere I can look at such an arrangement? One thing I do like about the revised plan is that I was able to get in a dressing table and a bigger linen closet, plus add a foot to the master bedroom and a foot to the closet simply from not having the "wasted" space of the hallway. Now if I could just figure out now how to have it all .... :) Thank you both so very much ...I'd much rather hash it about here than have the poor man drawing our plans have to keep doing them over and over and over! Chisue ... did you see the revised stairs-laundry-entry-porch,etc. link above? It added the powder room, and created a "back hall" with stairs off the dining room as you had suggested. I then eliminated the front laundry room and created another spot for a window. I'm interested in your thoughts if you have time to share them. And again... wow ... thanks! ncamy ... let me see if I can figure out what the problem is... It appears that autumn09 and chisue were able to see them ... I'm no technical whiz ... but I'd appreciate your comments, so let me see if I can figure something out! Thank you to all!...See More65 or 75 gal water heater help please
Comments (4)I'd really like to have sympathy for your situation... I'm just having a really hard time mustering it. A 70 gal "Asian soaking tub", like multi-head showers, are so wasteful it falls into the gluttonous category. You do have to think it all the way through. Don't install something like that unless you can do all of it. If you can't afford what it takes to make it work, then you can't afford the tub (or multi-head shower) It's like buying a Hummer and complaining about the price of gasoline....See MoreMaster bath Tub or no tub
Comments (9)The overwhelming majority of demographics for your complex would prefer a great shower versus a mediocre tub/shower. Aging people who want to age in place need a shower - and as large as possible because stepping over a tub becomes increasingly problematic. Design with both function (bench and as many grab bars as possible to be reachable anywhere in the shower). While many older people are nimble up to a certain point, there are also periods when they might not be able to bathe and among my senior friends many have given up baths even if they previously enjoyed them because of difficulty of getting up from the tub. While you might lose a buyer who absolutely demands a tub in the master, the greater number will appreciate a great shower. And, if someone really wants a tub experience as critical, chances are they would prefer a larger soaking experience versus a tub/shower combo which doesn't provide the best experience for bathing or showering....See Moremahatmacat1
